BuffyBear's Journal, 29 March 2014

I have 3 days of events (birthday party, etc.) to deal with. I am not even going to bother recording. Will start fresh AGAIN on Monday.

Sometimes you just have to enjoy the momment. Have a good time, a great weekend and get back on track Monday, as said; we've all been there. :-)

So I will tell you what I was told when I did my donut, etc. binge this past week. Record it. Be accountable. Own it. That's a sort of direct quote from NM and mrsmole. It guilt tripped me into recording everything and it wasn't that horribly bad. We're so programmed to watch what we eat and when we start we're aware of our actions and have second thoughts. You will back off and not mass consume as in the past. Or, you can just say "to hell with it" and enjoy yourself and hope you don't do a guilt trip somewhere this coming week and work yourself into a mad frenzy trying to make up for your parties.

I guess I'm just mildly obsessive-compulsive. I don't see NOT recording as a break. That's just me. I'm in this, and I'm afraid to stop recording, for fear I'll lose my way. Once I'm in maintenance, I'm sure I'll wean myself off and only record once or twice a week. Have a great weekend and enjoy yourself.

I love it when ClassicRocker is right... and she's quoted me. :D Bill. Seems you do a lot of adjusting. *smirk* Gillian, you're right of course. I had a period of time when I didn't record. I was on a break. When I woke up, I was 230 pounds. Oops.

I am humbled by your comment NM. Though I'm just stroking your ego. hahaha

Enjoy. I have no doubt you'll be conscious of your food anyway.

I agree with CR and NM, record it. It will help you later on in your journey. I record everything most of the time. I've just been a little lazy about it, and there are days that I just forget!! It will keep you mindful, and you can eat what you want. I have kept myself on track for the most part by telling myself that this isn't a diet. It is a complete lifestyle change. This is a journey into healthy!! Just have fun with the parties, keep your portions in mind, and you will be just fine!!

Hey, Buffy! Enjoy and have fun! When bullets are flying like that, it's sometimes best to just duck and cover. Anyway, I hope hopping back on helps. BTW, I do agree in principle with @NM and @CR. I'm guilty of not recording every little thing... but it does help tons when I do.

Listen to all this good advice, then do whatever works for you. Birthdays are fun for everyone, so do what you must ... if you must ... ha ha ha! *wishes she had some birthday cake right now* :)

Buffy, I hate to pile on, but I'm going to ask you to log your food. You don't have to, of course - you're a big girl. Sorry, Drag, but (for me only) your comment "That gave me so much freedom to eat fun stuff when the situation called for it" gets me in trouble because that mindset is what made me fat in the first place. Eat fun stuff when the situation called for it. Guess what? The situation called for it a LOT. Drag, if it works for you, I bow to your being able to make that work. It's another one of those "this works for you but not for me" type of things. Buffy, I'm not asking you to not have fun and enjoy the parties, but logging it just means you own it. If the scale rebels, it won't be a mystery as to why. And if it doesn't, you may see that you didn't "blow it" all that badly and that, as Drag stated, you can go live life and not worry so much. Me? I'm an abstainer. I go to a party and say "No thanks" to the cake. Period. Not once has the birthday girl or boy cried and locked themselves in the bathroom because I refused cake. Again, that's ME. We all have to do what works for us. I just believe that when we signed up for this website, part of the enjoyment was logging the food and seeing what works. Finally, Buffy, you're one of my heroes - no pressure, but you inspired me to lose this weight by Easter and nothing's going to stop me. Regardless of what you decide, I want you to know that.

Hope you're having a great weekend, my friend… recording or not. I find it really helpful to focus on eating mindfully when I'm either traveling or eating out and have less input of my choices. I know that you are doing what feels right for you, and will adjust if needed accordingly. xoxox

i have found that recording everything helps down the road too. If you want to see what was working/not working, your own recordings are priceless. Either way, hope you were able to enjoy your weekend!

When Dom 'forced' me to record my little yogurt pie binge, I was amazed to discover that that one desert was the equivalent of close to a half a pound of fat inducing calories. Shocked doesn't describe it. I do agree to with the 'total abstenance from treats will lead you away from logical eating', but those little side trips were about once every three weeks. I simply can't do the up and down thing with calories that way.
