Officially began my dieting 10/1/11. When I got on the scale and saw I was up to 246. Puked up my guts. Couldn't believe I'd weighed that much. Especially considering I'm a very active person. I knew something was wrong and I had to do something.

I am a 61 year old mom of a 33 year old classically trained musician. Can you tell I'm proud? Hubby of 37 years is home with me. I more or less help him as he has MS. He's pretty independent most of the time. I am trying as hard as hell to get rid of the excess weight I've gained over the last 20 years since I had a total hysterectomy. Hormones did me in and finally found a doc who would give me Armour Thyroid and another who works with me with estrogen's, progesterone, etc.

Live in PA in the country and we're working to finish remodeling our home so we can move back to MD. Or somewhere near a city or college town.

Want to get skinny again. Son came to the house after not seeing us since Christmas and says he sees a difference in my body. Scale says very little, but obviously working out is working and it's going to muscle.

Fingers crossed.

Long time absence - little accomplished :-(
Dearest Handymom... I hope you realize what an amazing woman you really are. To go through all that you have and can still love and support others who are going through turmoil. You are truly blessed and bless those of us who read your post.

My diet
Adding to what thinner said.... the grilled chicken is a blessing. I've taken to marinating boneless breasts overnight then give them a quick cook in a skillet or griddle.

I too worked in a school cafeteria. It's tough considering all they feed the kids is junk if your school is anything like the one I worked at. We had no say over the menu. Someone in admin. set them up. I drank water non-stop. Helped myself to any fresh veggies, carrots/celery, and salads.

Good Luck.

What do you have to be thankful for in life
Grateful that after many years of ups and downs in his life, my son has gotten his Masters. So very very proud of him. And love him beyond belief.

He came up and spent the week with us and it was such a joy to see him relaxed and able to "chill". And he too is losing. Claims I am his inspiration. That makes my heart glad knowing I've inspired him to lose weight.
