I'm a 54 year old mother of 2 boys who both are in college -- one living away from home & one who returned home this year to finish his college degree. I was overweight as a child and struggled with binging in my twenties after my sister passed away. After getting married & having my sons, my eating and weight seemed to stabilize until recently. I started craving sugar horribly & began eating for emotional reasons, possibly in response to menopause, being an empty nester & having my Mom diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I've been working to find a way to live and eat healthfully. This journey has lead me through many different ways of eating, but what's working best currently is eating mindfully, paleo/primal and staying gluten, lactose & sugar aware. I had been at about 120 pounds for years, give or take a few, but seem to be averaging closer to 125 now. I'd love to get back to 120, but am realizing that as I age, that may be unrealistic. I'm an avid tennis player & workout most days that I don't play tennis. I know it's weird but I actually like to workout. I'm so happy to have found great support here on fatsecret.

I agree with you all -- whole foods, including fruit, are the key! xoxox

Eliminating Sugar - Where do you draw the line?
Thanks for all the great input. I've been trying to do much of the same -- avoiding processed foods and added sugar, but eating fruit. I'm also trying to pay attention to any foods that trigger cravings. Thanks again!

I find when I avoid added sugar, I don't have night sweats. Each time I've eaten added sugar, they return.

Eliminating Sugar - Where do you draw the line?
I know not all agree that eliminating sugar is the way to go for us self-proclaimed sugar addicts, but it truly works best for me. I've found time & time again that for me, one bite of sugar is too much and 100 bites still not enough. I'm curious though where others draw the line -- do you eat fruit, dried fruit, artificial sweeteners, etc? Can there be any type of sugar in an item you consume, any amount? Can any form of sugar be anywhere in an ingredient list?
