Hi. My name is Darlene, I live in Northern Virginia, close to Dulles Airport. I'm 47, married, and a mother to one teen son.
I work as a Field Office Coordinator for a nationwide General Contractor - mostly in a construction trailer at a data center job site. I work on Subcontracts, Insurance compliance, invoice coding, and shopping - lots of shopping (I keep the guys full of snacks & drinks, and office supplies).
I've been up and down the scale all my life. I am 5'11" and I have been as big as 260 lbs and as thin as 150 lbs as an adult. I'm hoping to get back down to 160 lbs.
I'm a cook & a crafter. I started cooking when I was 10. I have over 25 years experience (one & off) of professional cooking. I like to make things. Sometimes I sew, knit or crochet. I have made sterling silver & semi-precious stone jewelry. I've done wood burning, paper making, counted cross stitch, made x-mas ornaments out of hand-blown egg shells; I'll try just about anything to see if I like it. I'm not a TV watcher and don't sit idle for long, except at night when I'm reading. I read every night for at least an hour.

I have Tazo Rest (tea) and it has some valarian in it but it isn't nasty like a straight up valarian tea would be (boy does that stuff stink! - the valarian, not the tea). I also have some valarian capsules that I've taken at times. I haven't used either for a couple of weeks. The magnesium I take at night is a natural relaxant too (as well as a bit of a laxative) and I've been sleeping through the night pretty well lately (at least until my cat decides to start pestering me). I'm peri-menopausal and have been for a while. I was having some really bad night sweats but they've calmed down substantially.

It's expensive season at my local market
I'm jealous. I've looked and looked but alas, no fiddlehead ferns or morels for sale. I've looked through the woods in hopes of picking some for myself but have not had luck yet. I'm keep trying though. Last year my husband went with a buddy that has his own special place and was able to found 4 morels and brought them home so I could try them. So, at least we got to try them fried up in butter. I want more. We haven't had the fiddlehead ferns yet.
Sounds like a nice recipe.

A couple of years ago I watched Fat Sick and Nearly Dead (movie). And I'd been reading every type of "how to eat" "how to lose weight" book I could get a hold of. I tried the juicing & eating vegetables for two weeks reboot from the movie and the web page "Reboot with Joe". I was certain that this would be the best thing I could have ever done for myself. I was determined. I made very expensive fruit & veggie smoothies (bought an excellent Breville juicer too). I had the "healthiest" meals of wonderfully prepared vegetable dishes. I stuck through it for the entire two weeks.
I never felt worse in my life. My body cannot live on just those foods. I got horrible sugar spikes and dips - shaky as hell once the spike wore off. My family didn't like me eating this way either. Apparently, I was a grouch. And my husband said my skin tone got rather pale. I just didn't look very healthy and I was tire all the time.
On the plus side, I found some wonderful recipes on the Reboot website. You might enjoy them too.
Then I started researching some more and found out that I need the healthy fats and proteins more than I need the fruits and some of the vegetables. I make sure to get plenty of vegetables (and I love them so there's no problem with that). But I also make sure that I maintain an even blood sugar level by eating plenty of protein (but not too much) and lots of healthy fats. I buy mostly organic meats and hit up the farmer's market as much as possible. I'm lucky because I live in area where the choices are amazing.
My reasoning for my diet choice is health related and my latest blood work shows that I'm right with what I'm doing (for me). Your mileage will vary and that's ok. You will have to decide for yourself what is best for you.
