Remember these beautiful trees in our yard?

Well, today they are "naked" and all the leaves are on the lawn! So yardwork is a big one for the day! It is a gorgeous blue sky and bright sun day, so it will be good to be out absorbing the sunshine.

I am working hard to balance out my food plan today to keep things where I want them to end up. For the first time since last Winter, I ate OATMEAL for breakfast - which blows the low-carb intention. My poor DH is beside himself trying to understand why I think oatmeal is "bad" for me. It was tasty - but already I am "hungry" again - I missed my breakfast protein!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today
- My DH - who is my greatest "cheerleader"
- My Bengal cat companions named Bodhi and Ravi
- My work - which has meaning and worth to other human beings
- My connection to the Mother Earth and its entire splendor
- My physical health

That was fast! But now they are providing you with exercise. I had commented on your oatmeal in OWW. I have the same problem as you with things like whole grains not "staying with me". Now, my BF nibbles on carbs all day and isn't hungry for protein until dinner time - have no idea how she does it.

HCB - so I just read in another journel that you are a Minnesooootan. We lived in MN from 1998 to 2006 when the ex's job moved us way down south here to Nebraska, lol. We lived in the country near Isanti -- LOVE it there. Our trees are naked now too -- we had several days of high winds -- life on the prairie. I am an old-time oatmeal lover but cannot go back there. I have learned to love the flaxseed meal/peanut butter *cereal* -- it gives me that hot cereal fix and holds me all morning. Oh, and corgi dogs are just the greatest. Josey is my first and I got her right after my divorce became final as a gift to myself -- she is 3-1/2. i've always had dogs and have loved them all but she is something special for sure.

After the leaves turn all it takes is one good wind and they are all gone. Still got a few on my shrubs but I think its because they are frozen on.

Our trees still have most of their leaves but today is so windy that I think that status will change very quickly. The yards and streets have leaves EVERYWHERE right now! Carbs alone usually leave me with the hungries shortly after, too. My daughter loves oatmeal but she stirs in a couple of beaten egg whites and sometimes some peanut butter, too, to get some protein in. Plus she says it tastes better and has a nicer texture that way.

WOW - I would stir in protein powder or egg whites except I still blow many of my carb points...maybe I can eat it once per week or something - but my egg omelettes are best! Isn't it amazing how I have adjusted my tastes to a more healthy choice for myslef?

HCB- that is funky- I had oatmeal today for breakfast too,the first time in months, I added flax meal and blueberries and it was tasty, but I agree with you-the protein/egg breakfasts keep me feeling fuller much longer. Hope you didn't work too hard on raking the leaves, it is hard to believe they are "naked" already.

egg/bacon it was for me too. I remember loving my steel cut oatmeal but it didn't love me - if I had a little more than a serving it was heartburn city and then I was hungry within a 1/2 hr. I grew up on eggs and bacon, fish, steak and veggies. Of course there were grits and pancakes too but I was a really healthy kid. Guess we live and learn. Started getting fat when "whole grains" became the norm. Well at least I can blame part of it on that. :) I think I will just watch your (HCB's) diet calendar and copy it so I don't have to think about it.

We still have most of the leaves but it won't be long til they are on the ground...luck for us the wind blows them away to never never land..we don't have to rake..I use to like oatmeal but it doesn't like me at all...love bacon and eggs...I could eat breakfast all day long..LOL...:O)

I always whine that the Kansas weather is just as bad as Minnesota. No, as you have shown me in your post tonight, not by a long shot. Our deciduos tree haven't even turned yet down here, let alone fallen off. Your fall is even more fleeting than ours, and you literally have 6 months of winter. Last winter down here, we only had like 20 days of snow or bad weather. It was in the 60's in January. (Global warming! heh!). Up there, you guys are packing out the down parkas and snow boots by the first week of November. Everyone has to dress like the Michelin man for 6 months. No, down here in Kansas we have it much easier. It is not impossible to walk outside in the winter, or bike outside in the winter, without being an extreme Iron Man athlete who is willing to put chains on her or his mountain bike and do it on ice. So my hat's off to you, HCB, because I know how important being outdoors is to you, and how much you love biking and walking and hiking outside. The treadmill and the stationary aren't really the same at all, are they? I know that all winter you will be doing your DVD's, and probably longing to go outside and do those things, and all winter you will be painfully biding your time. My hat's off to you, girl, because I know you will be there doing those things and posting with me and listening to my battles through those long months with little sunshine and fresh air.

Yep, my yard is pretty much covered in leaves too... got a little bit raked up today but hardly made a dent! Fall did go by SUPER fast this year, I feel like we usually have a much longer season, but I think since it was so dry the leaves just turned and fell extra quickly..

Oatmeal is part of a healthy breakfast. I think most people missed the "part of" part. I know what you mean. Every so often we have oatmeal for breakfast and then I wonder why a few hours later I am hungry. Too bad oatmeal doesn't have protein because it sure is tasty.

I never have to rake leaves, because the dang deer eat them! Of course, they eat my roses for dessert...drives me mad!

leaves leaving the trees is all part of the cycle.. enjoy the piling and bagging of them all.. lol as for your oatmeal thing.. perhaps if you can add some protein to go with it, like a boiled egg or a couple links of sausage. Have a good monday.
