I'm an 18 year old going into the Mcgill faculty of law. I have been overweight since I was a child, but I've been into sports for 5 years now. I did lose weight but I was never as skinny as I wanted to be. So I started at 189 lbs at the end of november and am aiming for 145 or a size 5/6. I'm not following any special diet since I just want to enforce healthy habits that I can keep for the rest of my life. That picture was taken at 183 pounds, and I will post one up when I reach 155. Goals include:

a) Getting into a size 7/8 jeans (goal met: 17/5/2008). New goal: getting into 5/6
b) Being comfortable wearing anything (goal met: 16/06/2008)
c) Exercising four times a week for at least 30 minutes (goal met and maintained since 12/2007)
d) Do a handstand pushup
e) Do martial arts/and hiphop
f) Do chinups and pullups!
g) Since cardiovascular machines have an initial setting of 150 lbs when entering your weight, my goal is to not have to press the up arrow 50 times to enter my weight (people are always peaking anyway!)
(goal met: 30/06/2008 I have to start pushing it down now! teehee)
h) 24% bodyfat (Goal met 08/07/2008)
i)do a kartwheel!

fasting
From my experience of fasting for religious reasons, I ALWAYS gain weight after the first week. A day won't hurt but I've never fasted to lose weight. There are better ways to do that.

Breaking free from Compulsive Eating discussion
I'm not sure about the trusting your body part. I really do believe it is mind over matter, over body. You can actually train yourself to be hungry at certain times and not hungry at others. Most people will not eat breakfast because they are not hungry and think they can skip the calories. But study after study has proven that breakfast helps maintain weight and keeps up energised throughout the day. Also, many people will get hungry at night, when our bodies really don't need much energy. I eat when I know I need energy. I eat 1.5 hours before a workout, maybe not because I'm hungry, but because I know I'll faint in the middle of my pushups if I don't.

But the author makes a good point about determining the feeling of hunger. I also liked how she asks what are we really missing out on when we pass up food at restaurants. What does it matter if you have that slice of cake, really? You don't need that kind of nourishment anyway. So WHY do we want it? Surely there are more stimulating things in life than the taste of cheesecake!

HEpl
Don't worry, everyone is like that at the very beginning. It's mostly water weight. It'll slow down by next week. Don't expect it to be this fast the whole way!
