HCB's Journal, 22 November 2012

I found a great way to stay on track today! I just logged in what I want to eat and saw how quickly the fat, calories and carbs added up! Yikes! I could easily eat 2500 calories even being "careful." Not sure I want to log at all today!

What are you planning to do? Will you log your feast?

SO, portion control will be key! I am pretty good at knowing how much 1/2 cup is so I should strive for even smaller amounts. Turkey is protein so I will eat that first and hope to manage the Carbopalooza!

Today I am grateful for my health and how much difference losing weight has made in my life. My pre-feast weigh-in is 177lbs this morning!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

Hey HCB - enjoy the day - one day off is not going to harm your wonderful success - as I know you will be straight back on track after the holidays. Last year I gave myself a two week holiday over Christmas where I didn't record or weigh myself - I did put on 3 pounds but it was soon off again when I restared again in January. I think I will do the same this year.....

I prelogged every possible food yesterday for a full day of grazing today. I put it all into 'lunch 'to get a realistic look at the total. As I 'do ' eat something I will move it from lunch section to breakfast section - planning to have lunch items to delete end of day as it's double my RDI. Am considering moving to this system every day. I've been preloading diary for a while but cant always remember if I ate 'the thing ' (under a lot of stress) as I am striving for 6 meals instead of 3.

Hi HCB- logging what you want to eat makes you mindful of how much it will add up to -then you can modify according to how much you eat, and I'm sure you will be in control and back on track with no problem at all. You are allowed to have holidays it just makes sense that you don't deprive yourself of things -moderation is the key- I just haven't mastered that one yet ;) Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your family :)

Portion control is your best weapon today. That and not wasting calories on things that aren't your absolute favorites will help keep you from going overboard. And simply being mindful of how hard you've worked to get where you are couldn't hurt, either :) Just don't let all of the calculations and measurements spoil the enjoyment of the celebration.

I pre-logged too, to get an idea of where that would put me. I like all the great reminders, especially not to waste calories on things I don't really love. And, to relax, enjoy family & friends & be ready to get back on track tomo. Happy Thanksgiving!

Pretty easy for those calories to add up! Good luck... remember to enjoy the holiday too! Have a great thanksgiving!

Way to go! I will be logging my food. That way I keep it reigned in and not over do it.

Don't be so hard on yourself, HCB. I had an incredible Thanksgiving healthwise and I just ate a little bit of everything I wanted - I literally had 1/4 cup of potatoes, 1/2 a cup of stuffing, etc. My blood sugar was normal after my dinner - after walking too! If my mean doctor has told me she doesn't expect my blood sugar to be great on Thanksgiving, then maybe you shouldn't expect your RDI to be that of a fasting Buddhist monk on Thanksgiving!

I haven't been logging at all lately...mostly just being mindful, and weighing regularly so as to keep things under control...today I ate until I was just a little "overfull", but not miserable. I really never eat until I'm miserable anymore, anyway, so it's all good. We ate earlier than we usually do, too, which helps. Tonight I will probably have a cup of coffee with Bailey's or Kahlua...perfect end to a very nice day...hope everyone had a beautiful day of gratitude for all we are so blessed with :-)

A little late to pitch in on your question. I had purposefully decided to start my weight loss reboot today, even if we made the full decision to do so Wednesday. Wife would be cooking ALL day yesterday, as Thanksgiving is one of her favorite days of the entire year. So, no counting. However, reading through all the amazing comments along with your thoughts - wow. There is so much sound advice here. So many thoughts and ideas. I love it. That's what FatSecret and our buddies are all about. And yes - 177 is awesome. You're doing SO well. Better than me. :)
