I am updating my bio...as a lot has changed in the 4 1/2+ years I have been using this site. I just turned 50! Still a wife and mother of 3 grown children. And my dear sweet mother has passed and gone on to Heaven!

I have seen Maintenance - for a short season, and then Life took me back on a rollercoaster of weight gain. Depression, self-medicating with food, and soothing my grief - all played a role. But primarily...I gave up for awhile.

Well, I'm back - and making the necessary changes to shift into a Lifestyle I can live with. I don't like being overweight. And I AM willing to change it.

If you need help or have questions...please don't hesitate to contact me and ask. If I can...I will be happy to help!

One Year Anniversary
Bella: "I will eat what I love and love what I eat but always remember food is for satiating hunger, not replacing emotions."

If this cost you a YEAR and 100+lbs to learn... so be it! Well done, my friend! What an amazing journey we are all on, and one we all feel privileged to share with YOU!

Thank you for your inspiration! Congrats on such an amazing year!!!

Why “Clean Eating” is a Myth
The above article: "If your diet has enough satiating power to keep you satisfied and happy, then there’s nothing wrong with also consuming some less-filling indulgences."

AMEN!!!

There is a light at the end of the tunnel...afterall! LOL!

And just to be clear - an 'indulgence' is a choice. They have never 'cost me' anything in regards to my weightloss, or maintenance.

My bad choices of neglecting to stay present - to give up - to go back to old habits and old ways - to stop exercising - to indulge my negative, depressed and grieving life... that cost me about 6 months of hard work!

It's all good - getting back to basics... including the occasional indulgence!

List your twelve best "tips" that have worked for you to lose the weight
The 12 best ‘Tips’ that worked for me Smile (Great Forum idea Jeff)...

1. Getting plugged in to FS !!

2. Track my intake daily

3. Be specific – PLAN your ‘Work’ (Nutritionally/Exercise)

4. Follow said plan – WORK your ‘Plan’

5. Commit – (If you don’t like what YOU have committed to – then change it…We’ve all seen the guy who lost weight eating Twinkies! – and remember, I didn’t commit you to your way of eating…you did.)

6. Educate yourself – Learn something new (one thing) everyday.

7. Reach out for Help

8. Consistent - Be honest (with yourself and others trying to help you)

9. Implement only ONE change at a time – long enough to see if it makes a difference.

10. Evaluate

11. Use #2 to play ‘Detective’ when experiencing problems/stalls/etc.

12. Pay it Forward – (Network what is working for you on FS, so others can learn about ‘successful’ habits, plans, choices, etc.)

***If you are new, and reading this forum topic - please reach out to people ... there are soooo many helpful and knowledgeable people here that 'someone' is bound to know a few pointers to get you headed in the right direction.***

10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight
I wasn't suggesting that offering what has...or has not...worked for anyone isn't helpful. Of course it is. But this thread started with the 10 things you need to know... and then those ten were presented as if they were facts.

While I am happy for people when they find what works for them, and even happier when as a community we share that info w/ each other... I didn't much care for the 'documentary vs. scientific proof' dialogue that followed.

My whole point is that for some...those ten things don't apply. Ten different things will apply. And YES I would hope you do continue to offer your opinions to everyone here. I would hope everyone would contribute to the conversations...

But do we have to prove everything - can we just express what has worked or not, and why we think such and such... without it becoming a thread about 'facts'... that are really opinions to start with.

just sayin'.. not trying to be rude, or argumentative... just my opinion.

10 Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight
This thread started w/ "10 Things I need to know about losing weight"... and I'm just sayin'... these are not ten things that have helped me be successful in my journey.

And while you may not know me from Adam, I have been on this site for 3 1/2 yrs... have lost 70 lbs, maintained that loss successfully - suffered a major tragedy in my life... regained some.. and am now currently losing again.

If you want to put your fork down between bites to slow yourself - by all means - go for it. But can we stop posting OPINIONS as if they are FACT?

How about asking people what has worked for them? - There's a thread that if I was a 'newbie' - I would WANT to read.

But then each time a low-carb'er and a calorie counter get together in the same forum... it becomes - combative, insulting, argumentative. Which to me is totally unnecessary. Mutual respect would go a long way towards a healthy exchange of ideas, motivation and information.
