kingkeld's Journal, 10 January 2012

What a great morning! I feel incredibly good today. I have energy, I'm in a good mood, kitty cat is purring in my lap, coffee is ready, breakfast is eaten, exercise is done and I am ready to go. Oh, and it's 6 AM. I have almost two hours until I need to go to work - though I'll probably go in early and save up a little comp time. Life IS good.

Yesterday, I had a quiet hour or two at work and I spend it on browsing Fatsecret, but also learning more about the rules for my skin removal surgery. I wanted to know more about procedures and risks and all that. I think it's my responsibility to know these things before I go under the blade.

Well, it turns out that all I knew what right, pretty much. The risk factors IS significantly higher when you're at a BMI over 25, and this seems to be the main reason that the doctors have told me that people don't qualify unless they're below 25. Except for ONE thing:

The rules is - since a couple of months back - now that people qualify if they have been at a stabile, qualifying weight for 6 months (which I will be in April), have lost a BMI count of 15 (I have lost almost 25) and that they at the time of evaluation have a BMI of 30 or less!

This means that I technically don't need to lose any more weight to qualify. I could just say "that's it!" and go straight to maintenance today.

However, the documents I found also stress that they see a risk for complications 4-5 times higher for people in the BMI 25-30 group than they do in the BMI below 25 group. For that reason alone I think it's wise to just stick to plan and keep going. I just think it's great to know that should I NOT be at at BMI under 25, they won't necessarily reject me.

Oh, and there are another few bits that I need to qualify for, but I am there on all accounts. The only one I can't control myself is their evaluation of where I am mentally fit for surgery (which I think I am) and whether I have a realistic image of how I will look after surgery.

This is completely up to them to evaluate.

That last one, the one about being realistic, is actually very important. Many people who have surgery like this do it to look better, more than just to get discomfort out of the way. Of course. We all want to look better, right? Losing weight is both for physical and mental reasons. However, they can only do so much with this surgery. You're not gonna come out of it with a Brad Pitt body. I am fully aware of that. I just want all the annoying, loose skin gone so I can exercise and build the muscle that I need to tone it all back into good looks. THEN I will have the Brad Pitt body. LOL. Probably not, but I will be able to tone it much more to my liking.

I gotta say, I am very excited about this. I'm really looking forward to getting rid of the skin, to not have to tug it into my pants every morning. to not have it being pinched when I exercise. That HURTS! And of course, I am looking forward to not having to look at it when I see myself in the mirror in the mornings. It's not exactly pretty.

So, BMI of 25 is STILL my goal, then maintenance, then surgery, then muscle toning. :) Accomplishable? Absolutely!

I gotta say, I love doing my morning exercises. I was just talking to Wife, and she is doing them too now. She and I both really feel the benefits of it. It's not a hard workout, and it probably doesn't burn a billion calorie (the exercise journal says about 200 in 30 minutes), but I feel really good afterwards. I feel that I have done something to move towards my goal, and I feel that my muscles are ready to take on what ever challenges comes throughout the day. I am ready. I love that.

I use the Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition workout DVD. It's a very comfortable guy, and the exercises are made for people at all sizes, every the super obese can start here. I think it's awesome that they have done something like this. I know that if the trainer was some cocky beefy guy, then I would never get into it. I've looked at the P90X a couple of times, and I just don't see myself spending ANY time with that dude. The outcome of what you get from the system might be great, but for me he is NOT something I can spend my time on. It's too bad, I hear a lot of good about the program.

Instead, on EMWE, the guy is happy, compassionate and motivating. It is of course up to you whether you will do the exercises or not, but I he motivates me in ways that I have never seen it done on DVD before. He's nothing unique, I'm sure, he just really clicks with me and my mindset on exercise. Again, I recommend it.

So how did I do on my weigh-in today? I lost 800 grams of my Indulgence gain! I am well on my way towards the new low, though there is still some way to go. Then again, it's only Tuesday. I have time.

I ate a heavy lunch yesterday, and this of course weighs me down on today's weigh-in. I will do so again today. The calories are no issue, it's just that it's weighing me down. No biggie. It'll be gone before I know it.

I like the fact that I am getting so used to doing all of this. The food measuring, the estimation, the choices I do - both good and bad - that I feel that I know what I am doing by far the most of the time. I love that there is not a whole lot of guessing in all of this any longer.

Of course, there are still new challenges, and there are still new things to ponder - like whether my new, upped to 1800 calories day will work better - but it's very little things compared to how it was in the beginning.

I feel that I can relax, and simply just DO this. It's so nice.

To those of you out there who struggle, those who are new to all this - I want to tell you that it does get easier. You do learn to live with it. You will accomplish. Just like everything else, this takes time to learn. It's a whole new world for many of us, including me. But it's a great world - actually it's MUCH better than I even thought it would be.

Today is another busy day. I have work, then doing a little private meeting afterwards, and then I'm gonna go rock out with the kids. It'll be fun. It's been a while, holidays and all.

Today, I am thankful for
- a good weight loss today. I'm ready to get to that new low.
- a new, well tasting coffee! Salute, y'all! (I did use to live in TX!)
- Rockin' kids.
- a general feel-good sensation all over!

Happy Tuesday! Life is good!

Awesome news about the surgery!! And I think that's a very wise choice to stick to your original goal of BMI 25.. No sense in risking unnecessary complications! I still can't quite get used to the fact that I can read your morning journal as I lay in bed before I drift off to dreamland (where I'm sure I'm running marathons and completing the entire P90X series in one evening..), but it's nice to have your positive outlook already for tomorrow before it even gets here!!

congrats on your weightloss! and i'm glad you are in a good mood today :) about 10 years ago i lost 45kg in half a year and i had a date with the surgeon for talking about the surgery you are going to make... i didn't do it. because she said to me: "if you are thinking of having children, i wouldn't recommmend you that surgery, because you could have problems during pregnancy" so i thought, that i'm still young and i really wanted to have some children. so i haven't done the surgery. i'm not sure if i will do it this time - there is still a chance to become children in my life.... so i really have to think about that. you guys don't have these problems to deal with ;) wish you a great day and thanks again for your journal!

Hi Keld, If I may, did you explore any natural options to fix the lose skin? I don't know if there are any, I was just wondering. Have a wonderful day!

Ryan - It's quite a lot of loose skin. I have not been able to find ANY real solutions to this. If there isn't too much loose skin it will normally readjust, but this is quite a lot, and very tedious. When I exercise, it will literally fold and pinch when I'm on my back. It hurts like *******...

Morning Keld... Great to think you already qualify for the surgery. I think getting below 25 is sensible, no point putting yourself at a greater risk, for the sake of a few months of being accountable, for eating and exercising. How are you finding upping you calories - is this why you had a "heavy" lunch. Burning 200 calories on your exercise DVD is not bad, my wii sports active one, burns on average 160. So I think yours sounds pretty good.

@SkInny - the lunch was only heavy weight wise. It was cabbage and carrot soup with a few more veggies and chicken. Nothing "dangerous". It just weighs me down for a day or two, "processing". :)It's actually nice with a few extra calories, I get to snack a little more and be a little less strict on myself. If I don't see a significand decrease in weight loss then I will definitely keep the 1800. It's a good place to be for me right now. 1500/1600 as I have been doing has been a little tough, you know how I like to enjoy life, and sadly, many times this costs a little on the calories.

Lovely entry Kingkeld. I am excited about reading about your surgery too. I hope it all works out great for you! I may even checkout that Dvd.

Your entry was just what I needed to hear (or read) this morning!!! What a great and positive attitude!

You have such a great attitude about things. Were you always this level-headed and optimistic? I'm glad you might qualify for the surgery already, but you're right to not take any more risks than necessary. I've been doing a Billy Blanks Tae Bo video- he seems to click for me and keep me motivated. Your journals seem to have so many topics to think about or learn. I caught myself relaying your message about eating eggs yesterday! Have a great day at work.

great outlook! I am feeling the positive energy vibe. :)

I love the positive outlook - it gives me such a boost, thanks. Great news about your qualification rules for surgery, that appears to remove any doubt about being accepted when you're ready. Sounds like you're wise to keep going for the lower BMI. Hope you had a great day :)

I love your journals. They're always packed with relevant info for me. I would never have thought I might consider the P90X until I saw the guy on Dr. Oz the other day and he explained how you tailor it to your present activity level, no matter how low that may be. For me it's a matter of being able to afford the system. I will look into the Biggest Loser one that you are using. I don't know if you realize how many people your optimism, common sense and information effect. Thank you!

There goes another very inspiring, uplifting journal! Thanks Keld...

congrats on being so close to qualifying!! You mentioned your am exercise forays not being much in the way of calorie burn, but what you might not know is that when you exercise earlier, your body tends to burn calories much longer. You are getting much more out of am exercise than you realize! Way to go Y'ALL (I am in Texas!)
