following: barbieq13's own diet
performance: losing 9.8 lb a week

I'm a 44 year old mother of 2 adult sons. I've been heavy since I had thyroid cancer at age 30. I have steadily increased over the years, but was convinced there was nothing I could do as exercise did little but build muscle, my other health issues always got in the way, my body just doesn't work the same as everyone elses! I have always eaten pretty healthy. I love my salads and veggies, not big on starches, no fast food, no sweets, no snacking to speak of. I enjoy alcohol, but wasn't willing to totally give that up being my only real vice.
I have always had an (albiet large) hourglass shape, and a large frame so I could hide my weight pretty well. In the past 2 years or so I have become more and more frustrated, having no real medical issue to explain my inability to lose. So I asked my Dr about lap band. He said there was a 16 week program I would have to do before the surgery that was mandatory. SO I decided to prove a point. While I had to wait for a few weeks to get it approved, I decided to start a food journal just to prove that I do not eat poorly. I found the calorie counter app on my phone and started logging the first day and then thought, why not give low carb another shot. Well, I read a lot of stuff, looked at a lot of labels and sort of came up with my own way of going about it. A week later, I had already lost 6 lbs. 3 weeks, 18 and at 4 weeks 22 lbs. I can't explain why it's working this time, maybe because I am not sadistic about it like I had been in the past, maybe because I've found some nice substitutes for pasta, maybe I was just more ready for it now. But I finally feel like I have found something that works that I can stick with for long term. I think due to my unique health issues, I will never be able to have a "normal" diet of up to 300 carbs a day, but as long as I can have a slice of pizza once in a while... and maybe a sushi roll, I'll be ok with it.

You haven't reached your goal weight yet...but
#1, time. #2, shake it up- change something. #3. TIME. my 1st plateau was at like 28 lbs. People noticed the loss, but I was still wearing the same stuff. THen the plateau... funny thing. It's during the plateau that your body readjusts and you finally start SEEING the loss. Happened at every one of them.

Spaghetti Squash/Tofu s##take Noodles
Shirataki noodles are a good substitute for pasta- they ARE a little differnt, but it's more the sauce you taste. I find them to not really have any flavor and I have a diminished sense of smell, the that wasn't an issue. But U did rinse them and then boiled them in salt water. I preferred them that way. I got mine at Ralph's (Kroger, King Soopers)Ralph's also have a "Carb Master" yogurt. Not bad. Like 3 carbs. La tortilla Factory has a very high fiber tortilla (wrap) that nets like 12 or 15 carbs.. big ol wrap... very tasty and satisfying.

If you're trying to get down to a weight you were at before, and you know how clothes fit your body, then it's great motivation.

It all depends on how well you know your body Smile

I think it depends on just how long ago you knew your body well... I've lost over 50 lbs and discovered that the breasts I grew over the past 15 years were REAL! I'll never fit into a top smaller than a large again!
On top of that, everything now has to be stretchy on top so it can come close to fitting the waist.
Such a problem to have, huh? LOL

Too small depresses me. Especially if it's a size I should already be in. I try something on in a 14... it's perfect. I buy a designer brand online and it's like 1/2 the size! So even though I already hit this great milestone of size 14, it's like it was a lie.

Thats how I feel MDEP what every works best for you. I have a friend on Weight Watchers. I tried it for 3 days and really did not like it. Not that it is wrong or bad I just did not like it for me.

I'm with you there... Weight watches was not for me either and MDEP has some good solid info there. I hope all the newbies around will really do their research and find what DOES work best for them especially for the long haul. And believe me this has been one LOOOONG haul!
