does trying clothing that is too small motivate you or depress you? This struck me as a question to ask myself as a read buddies journal of buying pants one size too small to motivate her. I'm undecided and want to know what everyone else thinks.

one size smaller motivates me... more than one size smaller is generally depressing for me.

I always buy clothes that fit my body at the time. If I feel like I look good I have more confidence & stay motivated!

I have a closet of lots of different sizes. New clothes and ones I used to fit. I can be feeling really good about myself then try on clothes to see if they fit and if they don't I get discouraged. Then I feel bad about myself.

Mostly just depressing for me. It just makes me feel worse about my current state.

it makes me utterly depressed because I think "really?!? I lost 141 pounds and that's not enough to FIT into a MEDIUM?!? this journey is never ending"

I will never fit a medium top. Chest is way too large. Some people look good feel good are fit and healthy and dress in all sizes. 141 pounds is a lot to be proud of try not to define yourself with a certain number or size. Look good in whatever you wear.

I'm realistic about the size I could be. I wouldn't look healthy if I was thinner than a size 12-14 (10-12 US) because of my height and frame, but by the same token, that height and frame would look the same at a 12-14 as a shorter, smaller-framed person would look in an 8-10. It's a gift, really. But clothes shopping continues to be a little upsetting, even now, because historically it's been absolutely wretched, and those memories are pretty strong. It's also a little triumphant, because I'm not in the size 22s and 24s anymore. SO, swings and roundabouts, I guess. =)

It all depends for me. Sometimes it is absolutely depressing, and other times it infuriates me so then I just work 10 times harder. The way I look at it is that we can get really depressed about our clothes not fitting, but we are working on doing what we need to do to lose weight. That counts for something.
Also what I find helps is yes I may be a size 20 and have to wear a 2x top or even 3x BUT if it makes me feel good and I look half decent in it then so be it. When I like the clothes I have on I feel good about myself and the way I look. I know I am loosing weight and feel beter. Before long I will be able to fit in the cute junior section clothes.
Congrats to all of you for your weight loss already!! And good luck on the rest of your journey.

I've had to replace my wardrobe 3 times so far since August (it's much easier for a guy). I hate shopping so I would always buy pants one size smaller (shirts can be big and be OK). It was great to have pants that fit me at all times.
The depressing thing was there wasn't much time in between wearing clothes and having to upgrade. That got a little depressing. I felt good about donating nice clothes to the thrift store.
The week between Christmas and New Year's, I moved to the smallest sized pants I had a backup for while they were still a little too tight. I also bought all new shirts a size smaller. I wanted to make that final charitable contribution for the year so I could take the deduction on my taxes.
The week after, I went to work and felt a little subconscious about the clothes since they were a bit small. I got nothing but compliments from co-workers regarding how much weight I've lost.
Those clothes fit about right at the moment.

I used to be a size 24, and now I'm a 14. Every time I feel my jeans are getting too loose, I'll buy a pair. But I won't wear the new pair until I reach another milestone. It encourages me to keep working!

I don't buy clothes in a smaller size because I honestly don't know how low my body can get.
I have a small frame, and I'm a little taller than average. I'm a six currently (started off at 16/1
, but I'll never be able to fit into small tops because of my boobs.
I'm with Alexandra above. I wait until my pants are loose to get a new pair.

I don't find it depressing to have a smaller size around but it doesn't motivate me either. As much as I love the results of fitting into smaller clothes, the vanity part of this journey never ultimately motivates me (although many times I wish it would). I do know that it's SOOO important to wear clothes that fit though because I feel a hundred times better about my progress in clothes that fit as opposed to clothes that I keep trying to wear even though they are too big. Nobody should live in baggy clothes.

Usually when clothes don't fit me, I just get depressed. I love to shop but once I go and start trying things on and seeing how awful I look in them, my mood quickly changes. But I haven't really gone shopping since I've been losing weight, and I don't plan on it until I lose considerably more. I have enough clothes in my closet that I can fit in since Ive fluctuated between a 14 and 12 for years. It is a great feeling though when I do fit into those size 12's that I havent wore in forever! It makes me excited to hopefully fit into a 10 someday!
The thing I am guilty of is when someone gives me clothes that are too small for me. I always stick them in my closet and tell myself that means I HAVE to lose weight so I can fit into those clothes. That never works for me. The clothes just sit there forever.

I like to find something I love in a store, then buy the next size down. I just bought a cardigan yesterday that I won't be able to fully button up until I tone my hips a bit more. I'm wearing it now unbuttoned, but I can't wait to be able to button it up! I think it's great motivation. I have a drawer full of pants I bought a few sizes smaller, and I'm just now able to squeeze into them, they were my "rewards for reaching my goal" and I'm so proud of myself for sticking to my weight loss plan!

that depresses me. and when you loose weight, there is no guarantee that you loose it in the right place so the clothes fit!

Do you like cottage cheese or does it make you cringe?
It depends. I can't stand eating it with fruit or anything sweet, like most people do.

I love coconut water & prefer Harmless Harvest raw coconut water. It's more expensive, but worth it, I think. I get it at Whole Foods or a local health food store.
