For those of you who get upset with up fluctuations on the scale take heart!! Yesterday I ate approximately 1400-1500 calories and exercised. This morning my scale registered a 'gain' of 2 lbs. Is that truly possible? No. Theorectically a pound is equivalent to 3500 calories. Did I consume an excess of 7000 calories yesterday, above and beyond what my body needed to stay alive? No. Why did the scale go up? I do not know. I have no 'excuses' like TOM, excessive sodium intake, lack of sleep ... absolutely NO CLUE.

I have to leave in a couple of minutes for an early visit this morning. I actually forgot my calendar at home. Thank goodness I know where I am supposed to be today ... but making the next appointments simply isn't going to happen!! That's what happens when I do something 'different' ... I forget things.

Of course I am still grateful ... must be grateful it keeps me balanced!!

1. Yesterday's potluck was not difficult to negotiate. I tasted a few things and did really well. No one brought dessert!!! We had a big bowl of freshly made salsa and basically very good choices. I spent most of my time talking and visiting with one of my colleague's new baby boy.

2. Cooling off nicely in the evenings again making it much more pleasant for sleeping.

3. Anxiety did not completely overwhelm me ... it is still there but at a workable level.

4. Another day ... another opportunity to shine!!

5. Being reasonable with my thoughts about the up fluctuation today and not letting it irrate me unreasonably.

A perfect opportunity for me to continue to practice kindness towards myself. It is useful for me to weigh everyday. But I know that it isn't the only thing to pay attention to. Am I irritated? Yes, a little but oh well!!! It is what it is and it really doesn't mean anything today!! I don't need to 'cut back' ... I am okay. It will float back down again.

Have a great day ... be good to yourselves ... gotta run!!! See you later!!

sometimes when we are tying our hardest the scale seems intent on throwing off our good efforts with discouraging numbers. Be gone mean ugly scale you are but one small piece in the overall puzzle to wellness and good health. it will be better tomorrow.

Thanks for the reminder. I had a gain this week and it almost messed with my head, but I was able to get past it and not dwell. Great job!

Sometimes we have to chalk it up to "one of those things" and know that as long as we have been doing our part the fluctuation is only temporary. It's still going to be an annoyance (at least they are for me, lol), but it's out of our hands. Perhaps since you ate at a potluck yesterday there was more sodium in some of the dishes than you would ordinarily consume? I was up almost 1/2 lb today, and pretty sure it's because of the sodium laden canned soup I had for lunch. Heh..."light soup" my eye, they make up for lack of calories by loading it with salt. lol

We switched weights :) I weigh what you weighed yesterday and you weigh what I weighed yesterday. Oh how silly it was- all the time we wasted worrying about that damned number in the past! It is the most important part of the Serenity prayer! Knowing the difference between what we can control and what we can't. You controlled your eating and your exercise, which are your choices to make. And the scale reacted the opposite of expectations, which you accept because you know the difference! :)

Exactly Kate. I had to stop by Wal-Mart to buy some sodas for our vending machines this morning. Of course, the vender hasn't arrived yet and what I need wasn't on the shelves. So I wandered about, trying to kill a little time hoping the Pepsi vender would show up (which of course he did not). So I saw this pair of light yellow capris. They were a size 10. I don't have anything yellow and I decided to try them on, not really expecting that they would fit. They did!!! I didn't buy them (they were not marked down and I am very CHEAP these days) but was delighted they fit easily. So ... yes ... I am beginning to truly KNOW the difference. Thanks for stopping by ... and congrats again on today's celebration of YOU!!!

Possible reasons: you ate relatively late, there was more sodium in the food than you thought, you drank a lot of water which did not make it through your system in time, etc. If you redouble your efforts, you will see an impressive loss tomorrow. :-)

Moose, can lack of sleep cause your weight to go up? If so, why? (I didn't get much last night so maybe if I sleep 8 hours tonight I'll record a drop? Or could I just go back to bed now instead of going to the gym? (LOL) :)

Or perhaps that was a question for Information...depending upon upon how much detail I want. (LOL)

Doit2it - Sleep is always good ... and if you sleep LONG ENOUGH ... no doubt you would burn 1000 calories!!!

I know you...tomorrow you'll just begin a new string-a-blue!

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me at all if you were down FIVE POUNDS tomorrow! That's your style.
12 Aug 10 by member: doit2it
OMG Moose, I just looked at my chart and I've only had 3 blue stripes - total - since January of this year, with 2 of them being yesterday and today! (LOL!!) Should I try to start a string? Does 2 make a string?
