Eringiffin's Journal, 03 December 2012

Things haven't been going so well for me lately. I came down with shingles and it completely wrecked me this last week. I am back at work today for the first time in over a week.

When I am feeling ill, the diet goes right out the window. Even so, I have no excuse for my eating behavior lately. I overloaded on stress and started to feel sorry for myself which is a very dangerous mindset.

I suppose mistakes on the path to becoming healthy are inevitable and are part of the learning process. It reminds me that I have not yet achieved all I have set out to do.

I'm going to try to listen to my friend Debbie's advice and not be too hard on myself. If there is one thing I learned from having shingles, it's that you don't want to wait until you are bedridden to take care of yourself.

OMG! You poor thing! I am so sorry!. I have heard shingles is so painful. You shouldn't worry a bit about weight gain. You are strong and will get back on track when you are well. Focus your energies on taking care of yourself. Let me know if I can do anything. xoxo

Oh, I was afraid of this when I didn't hear from you. I'm so sorry you went through that. Yes, please take my advice, you are a wonderful person who deserves love and care from the one person you can always rely on...yourself. Lets go hiking again when you are back to feeling 100%.

Getting shingles really put a damper on my plans to get into a size 16 anytime soon. I was noticing today that my 18's which had been loose are now a tad tight. I'll re-assess the damage after I have shed some of this water weight. I was really dehydrated this last week, too, from not having the where withall to get up and get a glass of water throughout the day.

Please take it easy!!! My mum just got over shingles & she was really poorly & in pain for weeks with it. It seem to sap all her energy away. Then again it is something that can be brought on by stress & a low immune system. So it is so important to take care of yourself!!!

I really feel for you. Shingles are very painful. Stress tends to agitate them, so chill out and relax. Also, plan your snacks when you are stressed. Instead of falling into old habits, choose healthy snacks. I use carrots. Hope you feel better.

Sorry you had to go through that Erin--they are awful- and can be very painful-(as I'm sure you know) hope you are feeling better now. It is almost impossible to weight watch properly when you are sick, so be kind to yourself. You will get back on track when you start feeling better.
