paddy888's Journal, 29 December 2012

I have regained all the weight I had lost from a year and a half ago. I feel like hell. Headaches, stomach pain, back pain, feet pain, short of breath and every day around 2pm I run out of steam and feel like I could die. This is how I will feel the rest of my life if I continue on this way. Today I begin all over again and this time I am hoping it is the last time I ever have to do this. I go back to the diabetic clinic on Jan 2 to see a physiologist. There has to be some reason I keep punishing myself like this. This time I will find out why. So today is the first day of the rest of my life and I had better not screw it up again as I think I am running out of first days.

It all begins with one step at a time, one day at a time. Do you still have the lap band?

It's obvious that you know how to lose weight. Your story isn't so unusual. Many have lost weight, gained it back, and felt horrible about it. Start over... it's a good thing. Don't punish yourself for those days when you don't follow your diet or meet your goals. Just keep starting over... every day - just don't quit. Try to do well for two days in a row, then 3, then 4. Don't look forward to "screwing up"... i.e. don't reward yourself for doing well a few days in a row. Your reward is getting on the scale and seeing your weight go down. Find something that requires physical activity that you love. Diet has always been my problem. I have plenty of hobbies that require physical activity... cycling, tennis, golf. Some people love to walk, hike, garden, ski. I get a second reward for weight loss when I see improvement in cycling, tennis, and golf. It becomes more fun and more addicting. It's so much better to get your satisfaction in life from things other than food. Good luck... and get on it!!

Thank you InTheRain, I am back on my program and have been for about a week now. Yes it feels good and yes I will only look to tomorrow. I use to be very athletic 30 years ago. I gained my weight and stopped moving. My bucket list is to be able to play a game of ball, to skate, to learn to golf and I have put limitations on these. When I have lost the weight. But you are right. I can use these dreams to help me lose the weight. Right now I am working on walking. I love to walk my dog but haven't cause it is hard to walk. I am walking now and will walk again tomorrow. Everyday I get a little stronger. On nice days (over anything minus) I walk the dog. Not quickly but steadily. You have given me something to look forward to in the spring. I think I will take a golf lesson. And while it is cold out I am going to go bowling with my husband. Thank you, you really helped.
