Is it normal to gain when...
Alot of what happens to when you first begin exercising/dieting/working out whatever...your weight can fluctuate SO MUCH just from "water weight." So it's really best to just weigh yourself once a week and better yet, take measurements of your thighs, biceps, chest, waist, and hips and keep track of those. It will help motivate you when the scale slows down and you think it's all for nothing, you'll see that your body IS shrinking!

Another thing too, muscle weighs more than fat, but the difference here is that the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn just sitting still - so you'll lose more weight in the long run. Keep it up!

Question?
Another way to get more calories in your day since you're a vegetarian, is to maybe eat a handful of nuts here and there for a snack. Pretty much every nut is a high calorie although a good fat for you to diet. They're also very filling so I usually snack on a few about 30 minutes before dinner so I don't overeat!
