I have been overweight since I was 11 years old. Well that went on for 29 years and this is the year that I lose some of that much gained weight. At my heaviest I was 407 lbs. Since March I have lost 76 lbs. It's time to make a recording of my journey. Well I don't ever plan to be 250 but 260 would be great. That would be 147 lbs lost.

Why did I eat? Well there were many reasons. Depression, anxiety, comfort well that needs to all change. I'm 40 years old now and I hear you plateau when you are losing weight. That hasn't happened to me yet so I'll continue to do what I am doing as it seems to be working.

I don't want to discourage anyone but I have tried a lot of fad diets. I did lose a lot of weight on Atkins. Like 50 lbs or so but then my breath smelled like meat and I felt awkward ordering a hamburger and throwing away the bun or asking the wait person to not bring a bun. I guess Atkins was not the way I wanted to spend my life eating. I like carbs.

So my journal will be my record of my weight loss. Be it good or bad I will post it. I also write my thoughts in it at the time. Who knows you may get inspired or you may think this guy is full of sh*t.

I want to lose a total of 150 lbs. I don't want a timeline for it but I do want to get under 300 by the end of the year (the current year is 2011).

Milestones;

10/11/11 = lost 100 lbs total

When do you weigh and how often?
LoL I thought I was weird weighing naked. Good to see I am not the only one. Here's my routine, I go for my walk, come home, pee, get naked and step on the medical scale. I do this every time I get done with my walk so everday. They say that weighing everday gets you discouraged but I am obsessive about weighing myself after my morning walk. On the days I don't walk there is no weighing. In the past 7 months I have missed my walk maybe 10 times.

What has been your feel good moment recently?
I have been grossly obese for like 11 years. I get random compliments from people I knew all the time but the feel god moment that springs to mind is.

I was walking out of Petsmart with my brother after buying some dog treats. We passed this woman. I thought she was attractive but I didn't give it another thought. My brother tells me, "Dude, she just checked you out!"

That was a feel good moment that I will never forget.

BTW, I look like I am 50 lbs lighter than I actually am so it wasn't a chubby chaser.

Plateauing
I felt like I plateaued after reaching my first milestone and I knew I had a ton more weight to lose. I still walked but I cut down the walking to 1 hour a day well I wasn't losing weight at all. I had to add more things like dancing. I always wanted to learn how to dance anyway. I'm not sure if it's an option for you but I got an Xbox Kinect and that has Dance Central. Awesome game! Just add something you want to do anyway and watch the scale move down.

Cheers

Why is it so difficult to stick with an exercise plan?
What gets me going is the fact that I love my dogs. They are the reason I go to the park to walk in the first place. When my family was here for 5 days I didn't take the dogs to the park and I felt horrible for it. So what gets me going is I my love for my dogs. The weight loss and workout just fell into it. Find what motivates you. That's the secret!

new here
This will be my last post on this thread. I think we should take it to another place.

The answer to your question is yes, I have walked today. I get up at 4am everyday and get to the dog park at 5 am ish. Here's how the challenge has changed me. First of all let me say we both win so it's not really a win/lose thing and this I know BUT I weigh myself everyday after I get home. I did so before but with the challenge thing going I am more eager to do it.

I stay at the dog park up to 5 hours and 30 minutes a day. Well today I stayed those 5 hours. I don't consider it a complete walk unless there are no breaks and I was actually cutting back as I reached a number of lbs I was happy with losing but then there was a challenge. Ahh the challenge. I walked 6.25 miles and there were a bonus 1.3 miles walking with someone else. I won't go back to my old ways once I lose the weight I just really am competitive. When asked, I told people my weight loss but I kept it at 5 lbs less than what the scale read. With this competition I won't do that heh.

Anyway, I won't be replying publicly anymore because I'm sure there are people who don't enjoy reading our little competition drama. Also, it doesn't matter if you're a girl. What I mean is I really really hate to lose once I commit to anything.

You say you are 150 miles from me, with all the walking I do I coulda walked to your place in the last month lol.

PS. It's a good thing that I know it's harder to lose weight the skinnier you are and it's harder to lose weight if you are female. There Bocalvr, I just gave you two excuses Razz
