How many carbs are you eating in a day? I am trying to figure out what an "ok" amount is in a day for myself too!!

ive done the whole atkins thing, I lost like 40lbs, but gained it all back and then some when I went off the diet. so best advice (as someone that is diebetic) balanced diet and low carbs (good ones with fiber)

Roselovesdavid: I am on reduced calories in order to change my lifestyle and relationship with food in a healthy way. For me, it's all about percentages of carb calories to total calorie intake. For me (on a 1200 calorie diet), my intake is about 150 grams of carbs, which equates to about 50% of my calorie intake from carbs. Carbs provide about 4 calories per gram. And remember, these are "good" carbs and I try to stay away from the "bad" carbs (refined grains and added sugars). Now I will provide the disclaimer that I am not a nutritionist, clearly there are things I probably don't know and a lot smarter people out there than I. However, this is the calculation that seems to work best for me - even if the numbers are not spot-on, they are close.

I found Richard Simmons plan helpful for me to find a balance in my diet. I have lost weight on Atkins type diets but find that, due to the carb deprivation, I tended to relapse. Trust me on this...if you relapse after a low carb period...you better be home and not driving or operating machinery. You might pass out.

Wishing you much luck and I also like Richard Simmons food plan as it actually teaches portion control. Have a great evening.

I've also done the low carb thing, a few times. Every time I fail because I can't have things I want. It seems I go carb crazy after awhile and eat anything and everything with carbs. I will not do low carb EVER again. Low calorie is the way for me. I can still have sweets, just not a ton. This is working for me.

I've been doing low carb, high fat for 9 months. You need to find new dishes that excite you as much as your carb high meals. I LOVE this lifestyle. I have several dishes I go gaga over. And I keep induction approved food always on had so there is no chance to be hungry. You can do it. Plan your meals ahead and stick with what you have planned. Experiment with new recipes and new foods. I've found new dishes that are now part of my menu cause I tried it out and fell in love with them. Now I can't imagine going back to carbs. I do miss something but not enough to sabotage. YOU CAN DO IT. Plane, prepare, execute!

first let me say congratulations that they lost first time I met you I just want to say I do high protein low carbs and on my 7 days I take a half a day to incorporate carbs I planned. Whole family chocolate bars, so you had your carbs, what ever they were... just pick up where you left off and do not beat yourself up. GET UP and MOVE a little more.Get in a little extra movement and burn more calories it put your body in a shock mode and lets go of holding on for survival calories, hang in there take control again. you know what to do you have done great so far again, congratulations.

Thank you all for your support. I'm actually on phase one of Atkins so i'm eating 20 Net Carbs a day. You are right though: I need more low-carb foods in my diet. Going to do some shopping :) Thank you again!
