madaboutmoose's Journal, 24 April 2009

A good Friday to everyone! There is white stuff on the trees again ... another little taste of living in the North Country I suppose! But I don't care ... it's FRIDAY!! That means time with my husband, time to celebrate our wedding anniversary this weekend, time to relax a bit. The scale continues to confound me ... I don't understand the rhyme nor reason why it goes up and down ... so I'll just accept it. I'm close to the weight where I usually "let go" and stop losing. I'm not particularly fearful about that happening this time but I am aware that I've been here before. Well, not exactly HERE but in a similar circumstance. I feel differently this time around though, which I believe is positive. I'll keep putting one foot in front of the other and enjoy the journey, whatever it brings. I hope the sun peaks out today!! Take care of yourselves .... see you in your journals!!

Thanks Dawn. Yea ... snow. It won't last but still ... as much as I love it I'm over it for a while!! LOL!!! We have been known to get a dusting of the stuff in May, June, even as late as early July some years. Of course that is mostly in the mountains (where I live) and it melts off fairly quickly. The 80's sounds heavenly. ENJOY!!

Happy Anniversary! I know the up and down numbers on the scale bother you, but one way to make sense of it is to think about how the moon and the weather effect the tides. Since we are made up mostly of water, it only goes to reason that the moon and weather would effect us as well. If you take a straight line on your weight chart you will see that it's been a steady decline over time. Don't worry about the day to day fluctuations, it's the long haul you are interested in, right? You are doing fantastic!

Tide fluctuations ... great way to think about the scale fluctuations!! Thanks for sharing!! You are right. It is the long haul I am interested in and I am feeling very positive about that!

You are doing so wonderful, I hope you have a wonderful anniversary weekend. I am so glad we are having warm weather right now. I can't say that it is here to stay yet. We are still in April and in Oklahoma you never know what the weather will do. I am waiting until May to plant my flowers in my flower bed.

You are not dealing here with weight fluctuations as much as you are uncertainties in measurements. It is IMPOSSIBLE to measure your Kcals in/out accurately enough to acheive the daily control that you seek. I can probably prove this mathematically but it would take too much time and our heads would explode. What this means is that this is absolutely no failure on your part and you'll need to live with this uncertainty and fluctuation as long as you weigh in daily. Take it to an extreme as an example...does it make sense to weigh in HOURLY. When you would expect to see the scale go down..after 2 hours, 5 hours, 12 hours...is 24 enough? Its like measuring a board with a micrometer (your scale), marking it with chalk (your daily kcal estimate for food) and cutting with a hatchet (your daily estimate of kcals burned from exercise) and then complaining that the micrometer doesn't work....Does this make sense? Love to talk more about it....Jim

YES Professor Jim ... what you say makes absolutely perfect sense and I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are correct ... and I agree, the mathematical calculations would undoubtedly make both of our heads EXPLODE!!! LOL!!! Maybe it doesn't show in my posts but I actually am getting better and not being so sensitive to the daily fluctations ... maybe at some point I'll even stop commenting about them ... tee hee!! I know that I am fine and that I am doing exactly what it healthy for my body. Although I am still weighing daily I have taken to looking much more at the weekly summary rather than the day to day changes. I've lost 45 lbs!!! I am 6 lbs UNDER 200. I feel FANTASTIC. I am more relaxed, more positive, and less in a hurry than ever before in my life. Had to laugh at the thought of hourly weigh-ins ... I actually did weigh one night before bed and then again in the morning for the helluva it ... and it was hysterical!! I don't think I'll make a habit of it!! LOL!! Thanks for the ongoing challenges you give me. As much as I appreciate the "you go girl" encouragement that my buddies here give me I equally appreciate the "are you kidding?" challenges you provide. Have a great weekend. I'm gonna go out and eat some good food with my hubby and have a few drinks!!! The SCALES be DAMNED!!!!
