Official Weekly Weigh-In

So, I've managed to shift a pound of Saturday night's pizza gain, but that still leaves me with the remaining 1.5lb, which puts me up 0.5lb week-on-week. :-( However, I do genuinely think this will be gone in a couple of days, because looking at the week as a whole, I did OK and should have earned at least a pound loss - I'd really like to shift 2.5lbs by Friday, which is when we leave for a long weekend in the Cotwolds!

In even worse news, buoyed by the success of Moonlite's new scales, I bought my very own Weight Watchers Precision Scales yesterday! Imagine then my horror to discover that they actually weigh around 1.25lb HEAVIER than my old ones!! They are really good though - you can save your settings, whereas my old ones you had to enter your height etc every time you wanted to measure your body fat, which was a complete faff and meant I rarely did it. These also measure your hydration levels, which is quite interesting - and the only measure on which I currently score green for OK! Anyway, clearly I'm not going to accept an immediate 1.25lb hit just from switching scales, so I'm going to implement a phased transition, moving across to the new scales by 5% each day, which works out at less than 0.5lb a week - still not great, but just about acceptable! Starting tomorrow, of course - 0.5lb up already is bad enough for today...

On the activity front, apart from a day off for each of my exams, I stuck to my schedule (plus added a bit extra), working out five days, which I'm really happy with. Just to indicate how far I've come in this regard, our little boy stayed over at my mum's last night, so we had the option to go out in the evening for a change. Now, a year ago I'd have suggested we went to our favourite restaurant for a slap up meal and a vat of wine. However, my first thought was: we can go to the gym together (a rare, and therefore quite exciting event these days!), and that's just what we did, and it was great!!

There has been a bit of a disaster on the exercise strategy front - our clever little toddler has discovered the joys of watching his favourite DVD, Cars, and even knows how to put the DVD in the machine. Well, kind of - and this resulted in the DVD being carefully slotted into the middle of our DVD player on Saturday afternoon, which has now rendered it unusable. We'll get it fixed, but I'll have to play my exercise DVDs on the laptop in the interim - not the end of the world, but not ideal!!

Oh, I got a chuckle out of envisioning your toddler inserting the dvd - it reminded me of a very cute commercial that was on years ago that featured a toddler inserting a grilled cheese into the VCR! So it could have been worse! That's a smart idea to phase the scale discrepancy in over several weeks. Be sure to subtract the added weight from your ATW weigh in =D Awesome evidence of your behaviour evolution with the Friday night gym date with hubby! The Cotswolds are lovely. I remember touring around there on my honeymoon 18 years ago. The name escapes me right now, but we stopped at a village where they had a miniature replica of the entire village (some of the buildings were still several feet high, so not too miniature) that you could walk through and feel like a giant traipsing about. It was really cool! Anyway, I'm rambling now. Have a wonderful day!

Phased transition--how interesting! Only an actuary could think this up!! Studying for that exam has worked, eh?!;) Since you're starting with the ww scale earlier in the week, and since it's hopefully more reliable than the other one, you can measure your progress over the week, and see the relative amount lost by the end of the week using this scale..the difference should be more important than the comparison of numbers b/w the scales..does that make sense? Yeah, it was real funny to "visualize" your l'll one's gimmicks with the dvd player...it won't be that bad to use your laptop...enjoy the Cotswolds and post a picture of those rolling hills and the English countryside..seems like the perfect time of the year for a visit there! hmm...I should plan to do that this summer maybe--for real--not just as the ATW challenge...ok, I'll quit rambling here--and save it for a different kind of "ramble" through the countryside ;)

Interesting scales!! Don't worry... when I go to my mom's house, her scales always tell me something different. What counts is the loss you see on your new scales! Good luck on continuing w/ your weight loss!!

Thanks guys! Yes, I do appreciate that it's the difference that matters, not the absolute number, but if I'm going to swap over to the new scales, I'm going to have to take account of the higher absolute number at some point! I think you're right that I shouldn't do as far as the challenge goes though, Evelyn - that wouldn't be fair on the rest of the team!! Ooh - and we might just have to visit that miniature village (it's in Bourton-on-the-Water, which is less than 1/2 hour's drive from where we'll be staying). I'm sure my little one and his 18-month-old cousin who will also be there would enjoy that! Amy - LOL, I know I am such an actuary at times, although I think I've always been this way - rather than studied to get here!! :)

Sorry I've been a bit awol this week... alas, this back to work malarkey after two weeks at home as thrown me a bit and I've had difficulty trying to fit everything in! Aw, it's great to hear that you've bought some new scales... but not so good that they weighed you a little heavier! But I think that's a great idea to phase them in gradually... now I wish I could have thought how to do that! You'll love being able to weigh in 1lb increments though as it's so much easier to see what's happening. Although beginning of the week I was freaking out when my scales kept gaining! That's until I realised that it was Aunt Flo with her extra baggage, so I'll have to wait until next week to be able to start testing properly, but I'm sure the new scales will both do us a favour in the end. Aw, you lucky thing going to the Cotwolds this weekend. I spent a year up in Cheltenham when I was 18, so we weren't far away. Beautiful area though, so I'm sure you'll have a great time. Aw, the joys of inquisitive little fingers that like posting things... hmm, I remember that well with our 3 boys when they were little doing things like that! Wouldn't surprise me if we still haven't got things posted inside our gas fire in our lounge... Jordan used to have this little tea set and one day I caught him posting the plastic cutlery in there! What with that and him getting hold of cocktail sticks one day and then sticking loads of them in our sofa!!! Ouch... yes, I sat on it, which is how I found the first one of many. Hope you manage to get your DVD fixed soon though!
