Thanks to everyone for all your lovely comments on my last journal! I'm still not doing brilliantly on the eating. I'm just SO tired, so hubby's doing all the cooking, and I have developed an aversion to veggies at the moment. Fruit's OK, but the thought of a something like a bit of broccoli just turns my stomach! Pasta, bread, potatoes, cheese, tuna are all acceptable to my delicate stomach, but little else.

Anyway, according to the
What to Expect site, I should have only gained around 1.8lb by this stage (week 8), so I do need to try to be more careful. It's just so hard when I feel so faint and nauseous all the time - and the only thing that helps is something like a ginger biscuit!

Hope all my fabulous buddies are doing OK. I'll check up on you as soon as I can! xx

Ack - I haven't done so well maintaining this week! It was easy last week when I was at the Health Spa, so in-between snacks were almost impossible to find. Without the control of counting the calories, it's been easy to kid myself that I've been eating well overall. I think the main problem was that I still had my usual weekend treats, without having had the usual abstemious week. We've had a couple of meals out, so some of the gain is going to be water retention, so will naturally disappear now I'm back to eating healthy home-cooked meals again.

In other news - and the reason I have been carefully trying not to get hungry between meals - I'm pregnant!!! Only 6 weeks, so only telling my closest family and friends at the moment, and of course my FS buddies have to be included in this select group. I'm feeling fine so far - hope that continues as long as possible. I only had a couple of weeks of nausea with my son, so fingers crossed I don't get anything too bad this time round. It was a bit of a surprise - I was thinking it would take around three months like the last time, rather than no time at all - but this will give us a good 2 year 9 month age gap, which is not far off the 3 years we were going for!

So, while I'm going to try to rein back the houmous-consumption a little to ensure this rate of gaining doesn't continue, I'm not going to be able to restrict my calories too much.

Hope all my buddies are doing OK. Sorry I've been neglecting you all - I've had rather a lot on my mind lately! I will try to catch up soon.

Leanne xx

I'm back from my blissful week at Champneys health spa!!

So, my weekend of celebrating my qualification did naturally result in a bit of a gain, but I've shifted most of that now with a week of healthy eating and exercise. The spa was fabulous and I managed a good balance between pampering and working out. On top of all the massages, facials and other pampering treats, I also had reflexology (OK, but all incorrect diagnoses!), saw the nutritionist (more on that in a bit) and had colour therapy (interesting and fun, although not really that enlightening!).

So, the nutritionist was naturally a little unimpressed with the Slim Fast route to weight loss, although did concede that it was better healthwise that I'd lost all the weight, even if she couldn't agree 100% with the food choices I'd made. Anyway, she's given me a written report with lots of suggestions on what to eat instead of the Slim Fast meal replacements, so that's what I'm doing now. Basically, it's all about eating wholesome, natural food, incorporating plenty of fruit and ensuring I get a balance of protein, carbs and vegetable matter at each meal. It's quite exciting and strangely liberating not to be counting calories anymore!

I did loads of different classes during the week, including Aqua Fit, Hula Hooping and Spinning. I'm inspired to keep up going out to classes at least a couple of times a week, because it is more fun having other people around!

I hope everyone is doing OK. I'll try to catch up with all my buddies soon! xx

Thanks to all of you for your congratulatory messages on my qualification yesterday! I had a fantastic day celebrating yesterday - we started with champagne and strawberries at around 11am and continued through until until 8pm before hubby had to take me home!!

For those who don't know what an Actuary is, I had a look on the
Institute of Actuaries website for a definition. The best they could come up with is: Actuaries are problem solvers, business analysts, consultants and financial risk assessors who look at past and present information, to develop and communicate a picture of the future.

Basically, it's a relatively small, specialist profession and we use statistical techniques to quantify risks and try to put a value on uncertain events. In my case, I work for a life office, so I try to quantify the value of life insurance products, which involves making assumptions about things like future expenses, mortality, rates of surrender etc, in order to estimate the amount of profit my company will ultimate accrue from a contract.

For anyone not yet convinced about using the power of positive thinking (as per The Secret) to achieve your goals, how about this for some strong evidence. At the start of the year I gave myself three goals all of which I wished to achieve this week and have been positively visualising for months:

1) Get to my goal weight - I actually reached a new low of almost 4lbs below my goal weight on results day.

2) Qualify as an Actuary - it might have taken a grand total of 15 years to get there, but I finally did it!

3) Win the Premium Bonds (the UK government's "lottery") - this is where I clearly wasn't specific enough, because although I did win, I won £50 rather than the £1m I had meant!! Oh well, maybe next month...
