wholefoodnut's Journal, 22 July 2014

Better day, not so tired: 100 degrees out heat index about 110 with the ozone levels creeping up, no warnings out except for sensitive people (me) not sure about fitting exercise in. Have 52 pounds of chicken and 20pounds of bananas to get frozen.

No rider today so did some errands after work, with kids much of next week, extra food is needed. The chicken was from restaurant depot, they had some damaged cases marked down 50%, $.75 per pound. Trying to decide how I want to cut these nice whole halal fryers, a few will remain whole.

Bananas were $3.00. Ripe but good to run through the processor and freeze. Also some other supplies. Will take a pile of food to my daughter's next week, 5 extra's add up on food.

Restaurant Depot is strict about who can join. So glad you have the opportunity to shop there! :)

I have a tax id for my little quilting business. I cheat a bit, as I don't have a food business any longer; however I told them I teach whole grain cooking and bread making. I do but don't accept any payment. I'm working on a few things that might turn into something but not there yet. If you know someone that has a pass, here they don't care if you take others with you.

Good for you! Lucky you got there when some meat was half price. :) Did you slice the bananas or freeze them whole?

Dang still working on the chicken, bananas may be tossed in the basement frig till tomorrow. I purée them and freeze them in 3 Oz. paper Dixie cups. Some of the chicken may go there also. Getting tired and morning comes early, taking a break for dinner. Packaged 4whole chickens, have 12 I'm breaking down into pieces ready to cook. Keeping the backs and wing tips for stock. Halal or kosher is nice because you don't have lots of extra skin, neck bones or innards, strict standards. Only reason for half price was the cardboard box was a bit messed up. Date is really good and vacuumed packed in intact plastic.

So the puréed banana can be an ingredient in your kale smoothie. Nice!

Yup, bananas have all that good potassium. Giving up everything is going the frig till tomorrow. Tired, time for bed.

You're probably going to wake up pretty soon, but I've procrastinated going to bed. lol

My alarm goes off at 4. I hit the snooze alarm a couple times even if I'm awake before it goes off. Was late to bed again, almost 10.

yup, but have 3 bottomless 12 yo boys to feed this weekend and next week wed-fri... they will put a dent in it. couldn't pass up the price, I have a freezer so am freezing most of it. love having stuff in my freezer when i can get it at a good price.

What a great deal! I've been begging for a free-standing freezer for 20 years. Still don't have one. I freeze berries, the occasional baked goods, and freezer jam. Really have to be careful how much, or there's no room for our regular stuff. Yeah, having raised two boys myself, I can vouch for the "bottomless pit" aspect. Have a nice time with them.

I'll have a blast!! The triplets love to harass their gramma. I bought an upright one used last year for about $100.00. it's not huge but works ok for me. I learned years ago if you buy a used one make sure it has at least a 30day warrantee.

that is a lot of chicken and bananas! did the chickens come with heads? my friend just bought a halal chicken and it came with a head. it was quite a surprise! we got an upright freezer last year. i just bought the cheapest one and then later realized it doesn't have a light and i think it doesn't self defrost. i should have looked into it more. i'm surprised the salesman didn't say anything.

what a challenge for your day/week. I found a recipe for rhubarb pancake sauce that also has ripe bananas in it; should share it on recipe page.
