my name is gerri. i'm 48 years old, married for 20 years, child-free. i've been a scientist, physical therapist and artist. i started 6/5/14 at 267.6. my plan is to eat healthier, more real food and to exercise regularly. just simply be on a healthier journey. i'm worried that if i don't start now, i will regain all the weight i've lost in the past and then some. i'm living with chronic illnesses and my goals are modest.

i'm following a carbs/fat/protein ratio of 50/30/20. i have set some goals to go with my bmi.

start bmi 41.5 obese III
1. 255 lbs. bmi 39.94 obese II
2. 223 lbs. bmi 34.93 obese I
3. 191 lbs. bmi 29.91 overweight

i'm not sure if i'll go on from there, but the next step would be
4. 159 lbs bmi 24.9 normal

Abs Diet anyone?
as jtung and the rest of you probably know, there is no way to get that 6 pack by doing spot exercises either. you have to do cardio to get rid of fat. you can't just do some sit ups, it won't work.

i'd love to be around your kind of cooking wholefoodnut! i had been putting protein powder in my green smoothies, but i can see that flax would help. i cook with olive oil usually. sometimes i add butter, depending what it is. the bread sounds great. i haven't had an avocado in a long time. just guacamole. plus chips, so i'm staying away from that.

atkins is not for me.

ratio of carbs, fats and protein
i think my fats have been around 10%. i just read up on the usda recommendations and looked at spark people too. so i am going to try 50% carbs, 30% fat and 20% protein with at least 60 g of protein. so i have not been getting nearly enough fat. now i have to figure out how to get more fat and less carbs. i think my protein is ok. i can't imagine getting 30% fat, never mind the low carb/high fat ratios!

ratio of carbs, fats and protein
thanks bingy. it's so unusual to hear from someone who believes in carbs. it's refreshing. i actually think i need to reduce my carbs, or at least my starches, because my triglycerides are high. maybe i should ask my doctor this question.
