Evening did not go as planned. Plan: run next door for a few to check on my neighbor's medical tests. Then work on a few cleaning chores, cut up chicken from yesterday's purchases, higher protein dinner, do some exercise, get to bed at a reasonable time.

Not... neighbor wasn't home. So had a snack, few min. On here, started working my cleaning chores. Neighbor stopped in, sat and chit chatted for over 2 hours, (left after 8) nothing done. Eating BLT's for dinner about 8:30. Nothing else is done... she reminds me sometimes of my mom , she is 87, and she has no family here, lots of friends. I'm next door and have some medical background, she's going through a slew of tests that she doesn't understand. I check on her fairly often.

Thanks, don't know about her being lucky, or you guys. She is a sweet lady. She misses her friend who died last year who had lived with her for many years. She has no interests as her work was her whole life. Since she was forced to retire @85 due to breaking her hip she bored. She has not adjusted well to living alone or being retired.

Wholefoodnut, you're a good neighbor and a good friend. DH and I have had older neighbors like this that we check in on and help out as we can. He and I are 68 and 58 and have no children and no family nearby. I know at some point, this will be us. I only hope to have friends and neighbors of the kind that you are and we try to be.

That's what I try to do as well. I'm 65 and my kids are fairly close, closest is 35 miles. I have my neighbor's sister in law's phone number and the daughter of her friend's who died. I'm lucky I have good neighbors.
