New dog is so much work, it's not even funny. I have him tethered to me on the leash 24/7, but when I turn my back for 5 seconds, he pees everywhere. He is driving me to drink. Except I gave up alcohol, so that really stinks! LOL! On the upside, my weight is steadily going down because of my relentless commitment to the gym.

This is where buddy reminds you to remember how much you loved that new dog??? It is a stage that you will get it through. You are bigger and smarter than him...use it to your advantage.

LOL... My pug has been with us for 7 years, but she hasn't been allowed upstairs until now... so we are going through the same thing! I can't seem to get the children to understand that they need to take her OUTSIDE and STAY with her every hour... to remind her she has to pee OUTSIDE and NOT in their bedrooms! The boys don't care... she hasn't peed in their rooms yet... just my daughters mostly and then mine and the closet. My daughter keeps say "she KNOWS how to go downstairs". Um... yeah... but she also thinks it is OK to pee in her new found space. Anyhow, I feel your pain... and love for the doggies! I am just glad my daughter hasn't cried about our lab today. And you are doing great with the weight loss! I am still working on getting up my strength and stamina for working out regularly, I envy your commitment to the gym... I am not quite there yet! There are a few more weeks of work and chaos, I hope to be in a routine early in the summer (starts end of May here).

Good solid loss MM. Our current dog, a golden retriever, we got when she was a tiny puppy. She was the last to go from the litter. Her parents had been vigilant with their pups and had chased them outside every time they got an inkling that the puppies were going to spring a leak. She has never peed in our house. If ever there was a dog that I'd consider having cloned, it's her. We're quite concerned. She's nine and she may have cancer. I'm not a happy guy.

Prayers go out to one and all who have lost a pet lately or who are having a scare about a beloved pet. We have pet insurance for all of our babies. So cheap here. $350/year for all of them and pre-existing conditions are covered, including cancer. $50 deductible. Pays 80%. You can even get double cancer coverage if that's a concern. For my older cat Niko (in kitty heaven now), I opted for the double cancer and her cancerous tumor on her bottom that was a $4000 surgery to remove cost us the $50 deductible because I had the double cancer coverage that covered 100% of everything. Bought us another 4 wonderful years with her. Totally worth it. I know I will get him trained. I'll post in my Journal tomorrow the frustration and hilarity of the potty training I read about today. Prepare to laugh. In my usual sarcastic fashion, you will be picture Dom running around the house, chasing a dog as he is literally running away from me and peeing as he is running, leaving a wake of pee that I am slipping in behind him. It'll be a hoot!

P.S. You're all soooo right. I really wanted this dog. It's my mantra now: I wanted this dog. I can do this....I wanted this dog. I can do this....

Sorry Mr. Wiggles is so much work, but one day you'll round a corner with the housetraining thing. Yay on the loss, not that I'm surprised.

I was going to suggest that you would do great with your next speech as this topic as the basis...

;-) When our dogs were in the puppy stage, I swore they had water bottles stashed away somewhere. There was NO WAY they could be putting out as much as they did and only drinking what they did out of their little water bowl. FS really needs to up their game with calorie counts. Each bendover and mop should count for at least 50, don't ya think?

Mrsmole, your new pet sounds wonderful to me. Be sure you use the same command to do business every time. You might want to change the tone of your voice from a sweet request to a command. Just be firm! Our dogs also know that being on the lease and going outside is business no play! We do have a fenced in yard. When they go out without a lease they run and play...entirely different . Take the sweet baby to the same area to do business until he gets the idea that this is the "Spot" and then praise, praise, praise. You might want to have some training treats in your pocket for an immediate reward. Good luck...the love they give so freely is worth every bit of the time spent training them.

May I suggest that you limit the puppy's intake by giving it food and water at certain times then 1/2 hour later take your puppy out do do it's business.

Wow, you're doing FANTASTIC, Dom!!! Keep up the great work... and the new dog is a hair-pulling thing, I'm sure... but they protect themselves by being *cute*... so enjoy that. Hah! :D
