rrobinson's Journal, 16 February 2009

I've hit a wall. The scale won't budge. It's seems to have been going on for weeks now. It's starting to get me down. I'm afraid if I lose my momentum then my motivation will follow. I feel like I'm working out harder than ever. That little voice keeps saying "what's the point?" and her voice is getting louder. I will keep my calories in check and I will NOT stop exercising.

Don't give up ... the point is that the exercise is good for you. I imagine if you are staying faithful in knowing what food is going into your body that your body is simply readjusting. I know how frustrating plateau's are ... personally I HATE them. It is only temporary ... we are all behind you!!!

We all have those little gains once and while. If your muscles are sore, it could just be from that (muscles get little tears and water replaces it to help them heal). But this is when you need to dig your heels in and really keep going. Drink plenty of water and recheck the foods you are eating (in case of too much sodium). Make sure you are getting enough protein at each meal. You might even try doing 5 or 6 smaller meals with some protein at each, instead of 3 bigger meals (to keep metabolism burning more). Keep changing things up. Good luck!

Thanks for all your kind words of support. This place really does help when you need a little motivation to keep on going. I'm usually not such a whiner about such things. I know I haven't been perfect with the diet, I just thought that I had done enough to at least lose more than 5 pounds in 2 months. I will NOT let it get me down. I will continue to push myself with the exercise. I know that changes are happening in my body. I am smaller and I feel much more powerful and stronger, its just that I am SO focused on what the scale says. I know I shouldn't be, but I am. So here I go, back to the treadmill. One of these days its going to pay off. This is officially then end of me feeling sorry for myself :)

You are not whining, you are struggling. Back off your exercise just a bit to give your body a chance to recover and change what you are doing, shake your exercise plan up a bit. Get some new DVD's. Be diligent about writing down what you are eating, and eat different foods, get out the ruts we all get in to. Try to eat fish several times this week, that does help weight loss. I know, it is a pain to have to do all of this all the time but the payoff is great. Hang in there, you can do this, just mix it up a bit.
