HCB's Journal, 17 February 2013

I have had a couple interesting days with food - not bad ones - just interesting. I have eaten a few higher calorie days this weekend but still within my RDI.

I think I actually am accepting this is a LIFESTYLE change not a diet. I have better ability to make healthy choices and limit portions of foods that are less healthy.

Most of the carbs I consume are fruits and vegetables - have been off track a little bit at times - BUT not overboard! Hurrah!

I am trying to eat more protein and drink all my water. This always helps me after eating a few carbs that are "off track."

I may not show a loss this week - but that is OK. I am seeing the bigger picture now, and happy to be seeking health and fitness each day!

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

Oh I so hear you HCB. I lost those 5 pounds and now I have not lost anything in 2 weeks. It seems to be perpetual with me, and I am so frustrated because I exercise so much. I have to admit I'm not starving - I'm eating about 1500 calories a day. Still, progress is slow. I feel like "My god, am I going to be on a diet FOREVER?" I still have that previous thing where you think "OH, if I just get to XYZ weight, then I can stop dieting." Yeah. NO. I WILL have to be on a "diet" forever. It is called lifestyle change. It's something I have to accept. If I want to continue with this body and hopefully lose more, I have got to stay in "diet" mode. Tracking everything, portion control, you name it. It's gotta be that way forever. Because there is no alternative unless it's throwing in the towel, quitting the exercising, eating whatever you want, and then weighing exactly the same or more than you did before. I have got to think about this every day.

I have found that when this happens to take one day off what your doing and and eat anything you like and then the very next day start back up what you where doing and that will help metabolism tokick in so you start losing weight again.

It truly is a lifestyle change. I was talking with my friend about this the other day. She said most "diets" want the quick weight loss so more people will do them but there isn't any maintanence stage because that's not where the money is. I can really see that. Good for you on figuring out your new lifestyle.

Sounds like a wondeful path that you're on, HCB. It's definitely a journey & we each must find our own way. I know for me that my path has taken many twists & turns, hit many potholes & required u-turns & detours along the way. I'm also feeling very good about trying to eat mindfully, which sounds similar in ways to your lifestyle change eating. Good for you!

Yep - you got it. Otherwise you end up doing it over & over& over the way I have. I pray every day this will become so instinctual I will do it naturally.

Making the switch from a "diet" to a "lifestyle change" is the most important thing - it's what will keep bringing your focus back to the healthy path whenever you stray away. Good job!

Water is a biggie! It has become such a part of my lifestyle now that even during my, ummmm, hiatus(?) I continued to drink at least 3 liters a day, because I WANTED TO. I feel so happy about this new way of being...it actually bothers me when I'm at work and see my urine is more yellow than it should be because I've been too busy to drink my water. Uh oh! TMI? Sorry...
