chryssm's Journal, 25 February 2014

After only losing 1 pound in the last 2 weeks I decided that this week I was gonna give this every bit of me , heart and soul , body and mind ... I vowed to myself to eat well and workout in some way EVERYDAY. I need to work harder ... I need to push myself. This battle isnt stroll in the park , its a battle and I must train and work and WIN.

I have had 2 nonstop didn't get to sit down at all kind of days at work. But I pushed myself and worked out HARD for a full hour yesterday and today. I must admit , I am aching from head to toe. Muscles ache that I forgot I had. I imagine tomorrow morning will be worse , but I am not stopping. Maybe a slightly less intense workout tomorrow , but I will workout. And by saturdays weigh in , the scale will move. I am sure of it.

I havent taken an elevator at work in weeks . Before I started this in january , going up 4 flights of stairs at work left me breathless and it was embarassing. Now I find myself running right up those same stairs . Almost like a challenge to myself , how fast can I go ?? I know its little but considering that 2 months ago walking up those stairs left my breathless and now I can run ... that feels amazing.

Another health plus ... My fasting morning blood sugars were pre-diabetes numbers before I started this in january. Now they are perfect numbers every morning. I sleep so much better at night, I wake up feeling refreshed and ready for a new day. And my energy level is increasing drastically.

I am changing my life. Slowly but surely , but by bit, day by day.

So happy about the dedication to yourself, your health and even aching muscles won't stop you. You may want to love yourself a little with a nice hot bath. So good to hear about the glucose numbers as I too have been doing so much better with that. It has made all the difference, I feel now like I'm gonna live and do it without diabetes. Have a great day :)

Look how far you've come and how fast! You are an inspiration to me, and that's really saying something! Holy cow! I am at the breathless stair stage at the moment. I'm looking forward to the day I can jog or shuffle without being exhausted...can't wait!

Hey, Chryssm... You're doing fantastic! Don't solely go by the scale. Even if you aren't yet where you want to be, you've made AMAZING progress. Just the fact that you're running up the stairs at work now is one metric that you have that proves it, even if the scale hasn't done much for you lately. A couple of thoughts, though... First, just because you aren't losing weight, doesn't mean you're not losing fat. You might be gaining muscle. It sounds like a platitude, but it really is true. Muscle weighs more than fat (it is more dense), so adding a bit of muscle and losing even more fat sometimes looks like nothing happened. Also, if the scale is giving you grief, you might consider trying a different WOE. There are so many people on here, with so many different ways to diet. Some work GREAT for some people, and not well at all for others. And sometimes one works well for you at one part in your life, but later it no longer does. Look around, talk to people, and see if maybe there is a WOE that makes more sense for you. GOOD LUCK! And stick with it! You've got this! :D

Great work! Non-scale victories say so much more than any number on a scale.

Hah, and I didn't even notice you said part of what I was saying a few lines up (about muscle / fat). Sorry, Chryssm.

Thanks for the suggestions Rob ... I actually have been researching alot of different things about how I eat. I think it is all trial and error until we find what works and I agree that like you said sometimes something works and then stops working. I ordered the book Wheat Belly last night because another nurse at work read it and was telling me that it is really good. I am looking forward to reading it. I cant seem to stick to low carb as strict as Atkins ... but it seems when I keep my net carbs around 40-50 the scale moves and I dont feel deprived at all. I dont eat bread usually at all anymore. I feel good about this week. I think my body truly needed the boost from working out , so as bad as it hurts I am not stopping. Its kind of a good sort of pain because I know it is helping me. thank you all for the support and encouragement , it means ALOT : )
