What a difference 24 hours makes!

Yesterday was a hungry day and I did go over my RDI amounts ... not by a lot but still over. However, I maintained my calorie breakdown percentages (my goal is 60-70% fat, 20% protein, and under 20% carbs) and that made me happy.

The weather here in southwest Florida last night was perfect and gorgeous! It was in the lower 70s and the humidity was down too so I called my 16 year old son and said hey, let's go outside tonight. I wanted to ride bikes and he wanted to ride his longboard skateboard so that's what we did. Of course he was tired about a 1/2 mile into our jaunt after lugging his 170+ pound body (he's 6'2") around over the sidewalks so he grabbed on to my bike and let me pull him behind kinda like water-skiing. It was fine... for a while... and I realized just how much work it was! OMG, I was spent within a short time hauling his dead weight behind me so I had him park in church parking lot and I rode the bike back home so I could get the car to pick him up. That was hard work I tell ya! Whew!

Since my calorie count was high yesterday I decided to have a pork steak for dinner (that's all, just the steak). I figured it was protein and fat and good for an evening meal after eating so much yesterday. I felt satiated and happy. Finally Mr. Monster was quiet once again.

After that I stood in the kitchen until midnight (literally) putting the finishing touches on my son's costume for ZombiCon which is tomorrow. He's going to look great! I finished my costume a few weeks ago so I could focus on his. This will be the 6th or 7th one we've attended.... wow, time flies!

Today my hunger is in check but my calorie count is a little high. Tonight we're going to see the new movie Book of Life which kicks off our favorite holiday: Halloween. Popcorn will be replaced by almonds and that's fine by me. Maybe I'll skip dinner and replace it with the almonds and dried fruit at the theater instead. Sounds yummy to me!

Have a spooktacular evening, FS friends!

Last night I attended a family celebration dinner at Cracker Barrel. All of my meal choices were 100% spot-on even though everyone around me (except my diet buddy who was there also) ate like they always do. I enjoyed grilled trout with lemon, small side salad with vinegar and oil, steamed broccoli with lemon and 1 pat of butter and mixed veggies with 1 pat of butter. Proudly I maintained my direction proving that you can celebrate with family and eat in a restaurant without losing focus. Even my diet buddy did well in her choices so we quietly supported each other in our decision to eat healthier. Even though I was there to celebrate the joy of another, I celebrated my own victory at the same time!

Side note: the biggest challenge for me is more about breaking old habits rather than craving certain foods. Whole food simply tastes better to me and that's what I have to remember. Also interesting is now that I make my own mayo and salad dressings I am unwilling to put chemically created food substitutes into my body when I know there are healthier options available. Losing weight for me is more about changing my mental relationship with food (breaking traditional habits) and getting a grip on portion sizes because I do truly enjoy eating this way.
