kimberly rae's Journal, 16 July 2014

well, I guess I'm not surprised that I only lost .2 pounds in three weeks. I have given up sugar, wheat and dairy - which I have held to strictly! - and still, nothing. Please don't feel the need to tell me where I went wrong. I think I know. But just support me please as I learn and change it up.

Let me just write this whole frustrated entry over again. I am surprised that I have only lost .2 pounds in three weeks!! I am disappointed and maybe even angry. I joined this difficult challenge in order to see that wheat , dairy and sugar were the cause of my weight gain. Now I know that to be false. I am staying very close to my 1700 RDI every day. I am eating more fresh fruits and vegies than I have perhaps my whole life and still, nothing. Plus, I'm constipated, which seems ridiculous to me. I have been walking a mile or so almost every day and I realize I could do more on that front.

So, even though I wrote before 'don't feel the need to tell me where I went wrong" what I really mean is, if anyone could offer some possible suggestions for me, I will listen. How about that?
I was inspired to rewrite this because of a member called Marksmen who got a lot of flack for questioning some advise given on here. Some of us have studied a great deal and still struggle with weight. Obviously, some things work better than others. I am 188 wanting to be 155. I'm 5'7" and 50 yrs old. I am in the middle of menopause and not so wild about the fact that I'm at my highest weight ever and even eating really clean am not budging the scale. That having been said, I am not giving up!!!
thanks ahead of time for all your support and advise...

Some get frustrated with slow progress when they forget that progress is just that, progress.

Maybe some relaxing camping is in order, good plan. Hiking and a nice message sounds nice. My two cents is that it's hard to say it is or isn't wheat dairy and sugar, there may be some other factor. I would suggest you sit quietly in your beautiful park and think about all the challenges you have overcome, much bigger than this, and how you can do whatever it is that you wish.Be gentle with yourself and take baby steps if you need. Much love, kmc

Have you had a complete medical checkup recently, including all thyroid tests? (Not just TSH; that's useless.) I feel your pain! I, too, have been upset after sticking to my diet for weeks at a time with no progress! Not recently, because I've temporarily given up. I'm 48 and almost back up to my top weight (over 200), in spite of the fact that a few years ago I went from 215 to 150 (and lower). I maintained for over a year, then the weight started creeping back and nothing that worked before worked the second time. I finally found out I have Hashimoto's, an autoimmune disease that attacks the thyroid. I've been working on that problem for about a year now, and feeling much better after changing my diet and using supplements, but the weight won't budge and I'm not even trying now. Maybe soon...we'll see! It's good to just be feeling better...almost normal energy and brain function, which was the worst thing before. If you'd like more information, just in case this might apply to you, check out www.hashimotos411.com or maybe www.stopthethyroidmadness.com.

I had 1600+ RDI before I realized I had selected the activity level I wish, rather than I actually have. Went back and corrected it to 1300 (almost no activity) and only then I started to lose weight...

giving sugar wheat and dairy is hard and it will help you in the long run! keep it up and you'll see the results you want in time! patience, persistence, and consistence are the keys! you're doing great!

i dont think giving up anything entirely is a good idea- unless for allergies....i think moderation is key. i found when i deprive myself completely i tended to binge. i allow myself things i love that are high calorie- just have a taste or a handfull occasionally if i feel like i can make it work in my RDI. just my 2 cents.

sugar and wheat are triggers though; and they yield cravings; dairy causes inflammation! i can't live without cheese, it's my biggest vice, although I agree with sarah on the moderation point; sugar and wheat products are also easy to be addicted to without even knowing it . . . .

Maybe working out more intensely would help. It has for me in the past. 30 mins on the treadmill , run / walk did wonders for me years back. Im about to jump start that again. Ill keep you posted. I am going to be following a diet similar to yours

Are you drinking lots of water, flushing out your system. If not enough, try to do a little more in that regard...just a suggestion.

I loose weight slow, I stay on plateaus for weeks at a time, I just stay with what I am doing and stop getting upset about it. I think that some people bodies need to go through adjustments, as we are eating healthier, and the muscles are building with the exercise, remember muscle weighs more then fat. So if you are adding muscles, you could still be loosing inches , with out it showing on the scale, because the muscle is weighing more. I lost inches , even when I stayed the same weight for weeks and weeks.

I've heard that weight training is very important for weight loss (and also super important for bone health) Perhaps you could incorporate weights and/or muscle building workouts (ie lunges) into your routine.
