The Blue Box's Journal, 27 February 2014

I did it, I bought a FitBit Zip, I know it's not the most high tech piece of equipment and it probably won't give me an accurate reading while lifting weights, but that's okay. (Or so I'm telling myself) I convinced a co-worker and my fiancé to get one as well. Maybe if we all hold each other accountable we will make healthier choices. I NEED to start doing that, my diet calendar is getting embarrassing...

Healthy choices were going to start today (I feel like I say this all the time), but a friend brought me a Starbucks Mint Chocolate Frappuccino (200 calories) and a different co-worker came around and brought Krispy Kreme Donuts (200 calories).

Instead of asking if I wanted a donut, it was kind of forced on me... you know the shpeel: "Oh come on we have to fatten you up, have a doughnut or two." Then your other co-workers all take one and when the box gets to you everyone stares, so you feel obligated, because you don't want to get into a "no I don't want one - come on just eat one" fight...

::sigh::

Someone gave me a tip once to just say something like... oh those look great but I had a huge breakfast and I can't eat another bite.

hahaha...OMG I just pictured the whole scenario...and it was funny!... well...its hard but if its only one day a week its fine..the problem is if they bring that kind of food every day. Stay strong!...

Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself and say no!!! Or explain to your coworkers that you are trying to stick to your diet and watching your calorie intake.

I have used a FITBIT since I started back on FATSECRET and it is a GREAT motivator. I absolutely LOVE IT!!!

I've also taken the item and say, "I'm saving it for later," and then actually throw it out when no one is looking!

I read an article that said coworkers and friends will each try 3 times to undermine your efforts to eat well and exercise. I've experienced it myself, but if you just say no, or whatever you're comfortable with, it will stop. Give it a go!

It's tough to deal with food pushers (we learned about them in WW last December and the different motivations they have for trying to get you to eat more or eat the wrong things). Some do it because food to them is love or hospitality, others do it to definitely undermine your efforts to lose the weight.

I'm considering either a FitBit Flex or a Jawbone. The FitBit Force was recalled.

You make me feel very fortunate. Since I am a companion to a client in a facility, the employees of the facility treat me like an outsider. When I get my healthy lunch out of the fridge, I am faced with all the goodies that get brought in. I just race out of there as fast as I can! I try not to say much about "watching what I'm eating" because I can tell some of the heavier women don't like the reminder, lol.

Its pure sabotage when people buy food and try to get you to have it. If anyone did that to me I would say this is for my health which it is. No one can argue that unless they have your medical file. I havent had any refined sugar or flour products for months now and I'm feeling awesome. Holidays were no big deal bc I just took a lot of veggies and meat and pushed them around a lot. Everyone else is concerned with eating. I have too much to lose if I dont do this now.

Re the donuts: just say I don't eat poison. Then laugh. They all know it's true but they'll laugh along with you. Works for me. But then I'm a strange one.
