kingkeld's Journal, 23 February 2012

What a crap night. Seriously. No sleep again. :( I had NO coffee through the afternoon and evening. Still, no sleep. I am so tired this morning.

On top of that, I gained 400 grams, so I am STILL not back down in the 77s. It really annoys me.

Of course, I can't let it bring me down. Trouble is that when I am sleepy and down, I make bad judgments. I need to focus extra and my work gets MUCH harder.

I have decided to cut out my coffee altogether, along with those baddies that has a lot of sugar, like chocolates, candies, ice-cream etc. Of course, if I can find sugar free options of the treats, then I have no problem with that - such as my low cal ice cream.

I do this in an attempt to get a decent night's sleep. I need this badly by now - the last few nights have been horrible, and it's ruining my days.

Also, as my buddy Lizzygracemusic pointed out in the comments to yesterday's journal, coffee can cause constipation - something I've had more than my share of lately.

So coffee is out the window, and I have a nice pot of tea by my side this morning. It'll be tough to get going today without it, but I have to. I need sleep.

Today will be a short journal again. I don't have the capacity to write more than absolutely necessary. I hope for a good night's rest tonight and a full journal tomorrow.

Take care my friends. Life is good - even for the sleepy.

EDIT: I canceled my meetings at work today - I'm gonna take the day off. Back to bed. Good night. :)

Sorry to hear that Kingkeld, about your sleep. It is the root cause of a lot of problems (lack of sleep). I figured out that most of what we call hangovers, or bad effects of other situations, is simply lack of sleep. So hang in there. Funny thing is, just like food, our bodies will auto-correct if you let them. So perhaps take some time this coming weekend for some naps. Just like with new parents (or party animals!), you have to take sleep when you can get it! :-P

Glad you are giving up the coffee for a while - please understand, you will probably get withdrawal symptoms, until the excess caffeine is flushed out of your system. Feriengheti is right when she says "up your water" I know you drink a lot anyway - just make sure you keep it up. Just a thought... You aren't "sickening" or anything are you? I know you have only justbgot over sickness - just a thought............ Hope you get a good nap x

I don't think I'm at all sick. Just need sleep. :) I am dreading the caffeine withdrawals, but I think I'll be all right. And I'm already drinking a LOT of water... and will make sure to keep the water up! :) Thanks for your comments, guys. I got a few hours of bonus sleep. I'll take wife out for a lunch salad, then home and rest in the comfy chair and take some granny naps through the day. :)

I'm off the coffe train now, too. Yesterday was alright until about 4-5pm when the headache started. Didn't go away until sleep came. Hope it doesn't hang around for you! A nap sounds BRILLIANT...

I recently gave up coffee too but it was more because the caffeine was making my skin break out. But on Sundays (indulgence day), I treat myself to a decaf flavoured latte. I do still crave my yummy coffee throughout the week but it has been easier than I thought to give it up. Good luck!

What's your evening routine like? They say that looking at a computer screen or tv before bed can make it more difficult to sleep. Maybe look into introducing some kind of relaxation routine before bed? If things on your mind are causing you issues, keep a notepad handy so you can hopefully let go of them my transferring them to paper. Try to refrain from doing anything other than sleeping in your bedroom and set it up so that it feels relaxing- all these things can help with sleep issues.

HI! I wanna reach over the internet wires and give ya a big hug. I can SO RELATE! I am still dealing with this as well, but I think it is getting better. If you start to get a headache from caffeine withdrawal, take "Excedrin" or it‘s ingredients with a half cup of coffee. No need to suffer! It works better for headaches and has a combo of 250 mg Acetaminophen, 250 mg aspirin and 65 mg Caffeine. There is 85-135 mg of caffeine in a 7 oz cup. Typically fiber supplements is not that useful in dealing with constipation, it is better at preventing it. Dairy can affect some people. For relief, there are Stool softeners - they rehydrate (moisten) the stool. These include Colace and Surfak. Or Stimulants - they make the muscles in your intestines contract rhythmically. These include Correctol, Dulcolax and Senokot. I have been scouring the web to support my next statement, but can’t find much about it since people typically don’t drink enough water. I had chronic bladder infections and had to go to the urologist and she said “I WAS DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER!!” AHHH! She gave me a sheet with a much lower daily requirement than what was doing. I was drinking many 44oz cups of water every day. I figured more is better. She told me that it actually will dilute the good things in my body. I could have stayed in her office and gotten more specific, but didn’t believe her. I did cut back on my water and I am not getting any more infections. I did find a good article that said “You shouldn't drink too much water while eating as it dilutes your stomach acid and can cause digestion problems.” That statement could explain constipation in “odd” situations. Most people don’t drink too much water so none of this applies to the general public. There is a balance we need. I can’t remember all of the Science behind how the kidney works, but it is really cool. From what I remember, the body will hold onto water just like it holds on to fat when “starving” for water or food. You can also confuse your body into getting rid of water by drinking excessive amounts of water and cutting back to a regular dose. This was actually the basis of a diet in the Hmmm. Not much written on this that I can find, but next time I am at the doc, I am gonna ask. I personally like drinking a lot of water, it was really hard for me to cut back. Hope you feel better soon, if not, think about going to doc, have you had your colonoscopy yet???? :-)
