NSNGng continues to go well -- day 4 today!

My Mom continues to improve & is going to be moved back to her apartment on Sat. She is thrilled & sounded happier on the phone than I've heard her in a long time! They are recommending to increase her level of care though to now include all meals provided (she had been making her own breakfast & lunch), administering her meds, weekly instead of bi-weekly cleaning, doing her laundry, changing her sheets, helping her shower & dress, and regular monitoring. Of course, the cost jumps dramatically. It may be only temporary, but we"ll have to see how she does. I'm waiting to talk more about it with her social worker & the nursing staff.

Mom has long-term care insurance but only the nursing home option. I'm told though that it may still kick in if she can not do enough of the activities of daily living for herself or is cognitively impaired enough. I've started the claim process & am trying to better understand it all. They never said parenting your parent would be easy!

I'm off to an early workout & then have my meditation workshop and coffee with a friend this afternoon. This final workshop is called Karma & Meditation, so I'm hoping I'll have good karma after?!?

First, though, I'll start my day in prayer --

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

And throughout this one day, and each one meal, moment, bite, thought & emotion, I'll pray, breathe, log, journal & express my way. I'm so very grateful for each of awesome you, my family & IRL friends, meditation, Mom continuing to improve & getting to move back to her apartment, and having the health & wealth to live this life I love! xoxox

Congrats on day 4 of NSNGng. That's great news about your mom's health improving and going back home. You try the most interesting things. A workshop for meditation sounds great and may be something I need for my sleepless nights. I definitely need peace and good karma in my life. Have a great day!

I'm happy that your mum is getting home and is happier. No one prepares us for parenting our parents, it is a dismal prospect. You do such an amazing job and you do it with grace and compassion. I hope the insurance kicks in, otherwise - doesn't bear thinking about. Have a wonderful day sweetheart :)

Your meditation is probably helping you immensely in coping with your mom's health. It isn't easy, have been there. Keep your sense of humor and enjoy the happy moments with her. The people helping your mom seem to be working with you fairly well, that is a blessing. The hardest for me besides watching her everyday lose her independence was convincing the care givers including hospice that I needed their help. Mom was at home, I also lived there so that did help. I worked and needed the home health care to be there when I wasn't, it never happened.

Years ago I read a statistic that shared '95% of all medical expenses are incurred in the last six months of a person's life' - and that included a lifetime of being born, skinned knees, appendix, giving birth, etc. Crazy, isn't it? You live your whole life working and earning enough money to keep you comfortable in the golden years and it takes the goose with the golden egg to survive them. I know that isn't helping much but that's the fact. Medicare A should be covering these first 20 days 100% but yeah, by day 21 it's going to get pricey in a heartbeat. Prayers coming that she recovers well enough to be as independent as possible for as long as possible. You are doing marvelous during this time and I am so impressed by how well you're handling it all.

Good luck...I care for my 93 year old mom-in-law...and although she is in relatively good health, with a full time job, grandkids, a husband and a life...it's not easy...but we do the best we can!

I hope the long-term health insurance ends up agreeing to pay. I know it must be stressful dealing with all this, but I'm so happy to hear that she is doing well.
