Christina Maria Thompson's Journal, 01 April 2014

I have decided not to deprive myself of any kind of food. I'm gonna try to keep control of myself with the portion thing. I had some icecream for breakfast this morning thinking that I will burn it off before the day is up. I haven't had any in so long that my stomach is doing some major flip flopping and making all kind of strange LOUD noises, ( everyone is giving me weird looks too, lol ) but feels good to not have to give up the things I love the most!!! :)

I'm glad you are trying this! There has been a lot of debate about the whole deprivation thing. I'm far more comfortable going for abstinence. For me, I'm like the alcoholic who you wouldn't give a sip of champagne to. Not even a sip. But we are all different. Some people can do moderation. For me, it's easier to just say no, and after a while, I truly don't miss it. When you said ice cream, I just thought about how heavy it makes me feels and the sugar rush and crash I get. But seriously! If you can have a little for breakfast and avoid a 3 gallon binge over the weekend, then you're doing great! Keep us posted!

I am actually with you with not allowing myself to go without even on this journey. I had M&M peanuts last night and they were sooo ooooo ooo good. YUM! I just log it to make sure I can fit it in my day and if the shoe fits...EAT IT! LOL

i'm with Mrsmole, i endulge myself once every day with 10 grams of chocolate, but that is absolutely it, the rest must fit my very tight schedule... and most of the good foods just disturb the balance between my macro's too much...

Throughout my journey, I have never deprived myself of a food. Today was stressful and I stress ate out of the vending machine. It isn't going to kill my day, but I'll push a little harder at the gym. I LOVE pizza so I have it twice a month. It's easier to give in with control than to lose control and binge.

I have learned that when I deprive myself of foods, I just ending up binging on them. So for me, if I really want something, I have it - just in a reasonable portion. I keep the Smart Ones desserts on hand because I can indulge and not suffer negative consequences. We have to learn to eat in the real world - it's not so much about dieting, but about making good food choices. Let's eat to live, not live to eat!

I agree with cmlynn, if I deprive myself of foods, I will obsess about them. The one thing I learned this past year is that "I can have any food that I want" I JUST HAVE TO COUNT IT, and what I learned with that was shocking. I was shocked with the calories in some of the "small" items that I was eating and so my decision from that point is do I really want to eat those calories, If so, I do and make up for it in another way. But by telling myself I can eat anything I want, it has helped with the "mind game" in a big way for me.
