Things have been going pretty well here. Busy this weekend, which is why I haven't written. For Memorial Day weekend we were doing some living history at the fort, so Saturday was all day dressed in period wear. We had some volunteers come in as well and portray positions and one of them cooked the meal for the staff and volunteers for the day...of course we cooked it the old fashioned way over a fire in the fireplace. Chicken and rice with veggies, cornbread and strawberry shortcake. Yum. So I was running the laundress station and telling people all about the life of a laundress in the 1840s and showing how they washed clothes and let them try their hand on the washboard if they wanted. It was a fun day since it had stopped raining about 9:30 am and cleared up. We had a horrible storm early that morning about 5 that woke me up and I couldn't go back to sleep for quite awhile. Sunday wasn't as intense, I was only in my dress and at the station a few hours - it was quiet at the site because of being Sunday and somewhat rainy. I did have to give a more formal "talk" on Sunday and Monday about the laundress life and so I went through all the steps it took to wash clothes and told a couple stories about specific laundresses. For some reason I wasn't feeling well yesterday (dizzy, nauseous, feverish). Aunt Flo's getting ready to leave, so maybe that's why. But I ended up going home 2.5 hours early. I hate doing that.
I started feeling better though and got some things done last night in preparation for Greg coming and our short trip. Tonight I'm going to try and go into Joplin, MO (about an hour drive) and get something cute to wear. I don't really have any dresses or skirts that fit, and I'd like to wear something a little dressier than jeans and a top. So yep. And then he comes Thursday, but is going to try and get the Wednesday night flight if he can. there's a flight from Charleston at 6:30pm versus leaving at 6:30am Thursday, so he's going down before in hopes he can get on the Wed. and if not he's staying at a friend's house that night. There was some reason we didn't originally get the evening flight, but I can't remember why.
So the scale is going down, yay! I know I said I was thinking about this extreme zig zag to jump start, but that hasn't really happened this week - too many obstacles, but it's been ok as long as the scale is going down down down down down!
Gotta run to work. Well, maybe I'll walk.
