Kiki8123's Journal, 26 June 2014

Haven't logged on in a couple of days (trying to get the boss-man ready for vacation next week). Am excited cause when he's on vacation, I don't have to work overtime (unfortunately that means a little less money in the paycheck) but I get to enjoy the sunshine for a few hours like everyone else! He'll be gone for 3 weeks. I am happy to report that I have been exercising my butt off lately! I'm changing up the exercise routine a bit. I did an hour on the treadmill yesterday and then a coworker texted me challenging me to attend a Zumba (dance) class with her! Well, she didn't really challenge me, but instead invited me - but I took it as a challenge to myself to make myself go. 😄. So today I woke to a weight of 200.2!!!! Soooo close! Hopefully something crazy doesn't happen today before tomorrow's weigh in as I certainly don't want to gain! Am really hoping to lose that .3 lbs in order to get into Onederland.

I've never liked yogurt. I kept hearing everyone talk about Greek yogurt and that I should try it. Someone told me, "do you like sour cream?" Yes! "Well, it's like sour cream, just a bit sweeter!" So, finally tried it the other day. Raspberry Greek yogurt and added a little granola and a couple (well 4-5) blackberries. I actually liked it (I think...). Ha! It's always hard to make your mind realize you like something after so many years of just ugh and yuck!!!

So tell me, this yogurt, and the added berries and granola (not sure I could've dine the texture without the granola). I mean, it's kinda weird thinking of eating "sweeter sour cream" all by itself! After I'd eaten it all, I logged it in. Whoa baby! What the heck with the carbs?! Why am I eating this??? No, really, please tell me the health benefits! I need to know if I should continue to "try" to like this. I'm thinking I can get around the head thing - if it's that good for me. If not, I'll go back in my shell and keep away from the stuff!

Fingers crossed for weigh in tomorrow!!

I mix plain fat free greek yogurt with a tablespoon of fat free sugar free pudding mix and a couple tablespoons of water for a high protein snack around 100 cal with only about 10 grams of carbs. Healthy bacteria for your digestive track, and a big calcium boost, plus it tastes like a dessert. Glad you're kicking ass, keep up the great work you'll be in onederland in no time!!

Prayers being sent to your friend for a continuing recovery. I believe in miracles and God works in mysterious ways. God does hear our prayers. You and your friends did lift him up with your prayers...God Bless......

What Drag said. Fage is about the lowest carb/sugar you can get but I think there's a lawsuit that they really aren't greek.

I read it was Chobani that was the company in the lawsuit. Has to do with them not saying "Greek style" compared to being made in Greece or made by Greeks. I get the the nonfat plain yogurt. A lot of protein with no fat, tiny bit of carbs. I put fresh fruit or frozen sugar free fruit in mine, I use it in place of heavy cream, evaporated milk, sour cream and milk in recipes. I experiment with it in general when it comes to recipes. I tried the fat free, sugar free pudding in it but the pudding had aspartame and other ingredients that left a strange taste...so when the pudding is gone I probably won't buy it again. I made it a point to stay away from aspartame after all the stuff I read about it.

All greek yogurt isn't created equal ;-) A lot of them - including the fat free - have sugar added to the fruit. I've always liked yogurt but really like greek primarily because of the protein and calcium. I prefer Fage and add my own fruit/sweetener. My 'gotta grab something FAST' option is Dannon Light & Fit. I've been eating yogurt since the 70s. A lot of what's on the market now - both Greek and regular yogurt just barely resembles what yogurt USED to be like. IMO Fage is the closest.

I make my own regular yogurt. Greek tried that ended up with cups of whey, no yogurts. greek generally has higher protein, thicker, and very creamy.

Thanks, everyone! I ended up having another yogurt for breakfast today (I had bought two when at the store). It was Danon's Oikos - this time fruit on the bottom and added some granola. It counted as 40g of carbs! So, I'm still not sure about this. I'm reading up a bit more on this - looks like you're right and it is good re amount of protein and supposed to keep me feeling fuller longer. And as you said, full of calcium and other vitamins. However, a couple of sites say to watch the sugar, make sure that milk and live active cultures are main ingredient. As you've all said, it looks like brand does matter here.

Holy sheep shit, 40g of carbs?!?! Drop that like it's hot and try some of our add ins to plain greek yogurt instead of buying the pre - fruited kinds. The protein in it isn't worth that amount of carbs.

Ya, that's exactly what I'm thinking!! I like your idea of the add ins and will buy the plain next time!
