Gabbie1018's Journal, 01 January 2014

Call me crazy but I am 192 lbs with a goal weight 160 lbs and the site is recommending 2000 calories/day to get to me to goal weight. That seems very high to me. Would love some feedback. Any thoughts? I am thinking more like 1500 calories/day.

I think that if you fill in your exercise diary and substract 500 from the calories you burned, you'd have the calories you should eat to lose 1 pound a week

I'm in the same boat with you, it recommended me to be a lot higher, and I think it was due to the activity level that you have selected. I adjusted mine to 1500 calories for myself (even though I struggle with breaking 1,000). I think as long as you are not putting yourself in starvation mode, keeping about 1200 calories, you'll be fine with your calorie limit.

Depends on how quickly you want to lose the weight - I would think at 1500 cal per day you would be hungry. Why not split the diff between 2000 and aim for 1750 per day, plus exercise.

Thanks for all of you thoughts/suggestions. I am having a hard time hitting 1200 calories today. This is not going to be easy.

I am on 1700 cal a day with 80%, less than 7g of carbs. I'll let you know how it works. I think that 1200 cal is not enough, you could enter the starvation mode.

I find the recommended cals per day are too high on this site - you need to experiment at what works best for you. I find I need to stay around 1200 to lose even 1 lb. a week, but I am older than you so that makes a big difference. Try 1500-1600 and see how you do.

I read somewhere that if you are an inactive 30 year old your intake is right around 1000 calories a day. It happened to be the same amount my kid was taking in at the time. Anyway, I use this as a guide kind of, cause I'm not 30 anymore! Green vegetables and lean proteins on each meal and then fruits for snacks. Also using nuts helps with cravings along with an oz of cheese. I think 2000 is too high also, which is what this site told me also. I try to keep in mind, any calculator on the website would need to error on the side of caution. When you say you are having a hard time hitting 1200, do you mean you can eat that much or your eating more?
