Day 2 of Atkins:

Starting to learn to eat slowly. Might have eaten too large a breakfast. I should leave 10 minutes after eating to see if I am really hungry. Ate a snack at 11:30 when I wasn’t really hungry.

Got hungry at 2:00. Ate a Double Quarter Pounder from McD's without the bun or ketchup or onions. Hate eating fake cheese, though.

Cravings around 4:15. No hunger, just desire for carbs, sweets, etc.

No hunger until 5:25. Ate a cheese cube and felt better.

It is now almost 8:30pm and I am not hungry. I haven't eaten near enough today. I'm about 13 carbs short for the day, almost all of my veggie carbs, too. I'm over 100g short for protein. But right now, I'm only feeling a slight urge to eat something and only because I am thinking about it. It's also a bit late in the evening to eat a big meal (or at least big enough to cover my missing carbs and protein.

Is this bad, or is it just my body adjusting?

Hi Nmarsden and congrats on taking this journey! It is normal for you to have carb cravings and low appetite during your first week or so on Atkins. I found the 3 most important, okay 4 most important things to do is: log everything you eat, stay committed - don't cheat, find variety in your meal planning and have fun. You're on a life-long journey now, and the best way to stay on the right path is to enjoy what you are doing and celebrate your milestones. Best of luck to you!

Hi Nmardsen, It's a learning process at first. You're thinking about the things you need to though and that's terrific. You're thinking about trying to get those veggie carbs in and making sure to meet your caloric needs. It can be difficult to meet those veggie carbs but it's worth it. During induction, I was very seldom hungry, but still made sure to eat every 4 hours or so. I don't know if you skipped the onions because you don't like them or not, but if you don't mind them, they pack quite a few carbs and are allowed on induction. They go a long way toward helping to meet the suggested veggie net carbs. You have a great attitude so I know you'll be successful. Keep it up!

Hiya! Im just starting my 3rd week on induction myself....I think just from reading your entry I have to add to the great advice you already have on this journal what I find most important: 1. Be Prepared!! Plan meals, make sure you have exactly what you want and need at the ready in your fridge!! 2. Dont sweat if you should or should not be hungry, or what time it is, if its too late or too early .Eat when hungry, until you feel pleasantly full but not overstuffed (love that line, cuz in the past Id always eat until stuffed!) 3. TRACK everything here. It actually gets to be fun, you are your own science experiment!! For me, the first week or so, I WAS actually quite hungry. My appetite didnt start to lessen until I was a little farther along! Anyway welcome and good luck to you!!! You can do it!

Welcome - and all the best!!! i too have had the feeling of not being hungry- but a lil snack of some protein here and there won't hurt :) I keep a lil container around at work with some olives, cheese cubes and cherry tomatoes when i feel peckish around mid morning and a sugar free jello for mid afternoon :P I'm trying new things with my veg- changing texture seems to help (i.e. discovered if you blend cauliflower to look like mashed potatoes its quite decent! lol )
