HCB's Journal, 30 November 2012

Yikes - my carb cravings have been overwhelmingly strong the last two days! I had cereal as a snack two nights in a row and today a slice of rye bread.

Now, I know this sounds like no big deal to some people; but, I really am trying to avoid processed carbs and just stay with fruits and vegetables.

It mystifies me how some days I have no cravings whatsoever and other days it is ridiculously difficult!

Do you have the same thing happen to you?

My mantra: Low fat, low carb, high protein...Low fat, low carb, high protein...Low fat, low carb, high protein...

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

I SO hear you HCB! I kind of posted the same thing today and you commented on my night eating and snacking. I don't have the weather as an excuse - it's been unseasonably warm here. The lack of sunlight, when it gets dark by 5pm, may be triggering our bodies to want to eat carbs where as someone in Phoenix might not have the same problem. I started dieting at the end of January of this year. Before that, I had a whole winter of starchy goodness. What is better in wintertime than a huge bowl of chili, with Fritos and cheese? What is better than warm banana nut bread spread generously with real butter? What satisfies your hunger better than mashed potatoes and gravy? You get my drift. Somehow it's easier in the spring and summer to diet, because eating chicken breast with salad or fresh fruit and yogurt just seems so right - do you feel this with "diet" foods when it's spring and summer? Wintertime though, it's so hard to diet. All you want is roast beef with scalloped potatoes and broccoli and cheese. At least, that's what I want in cold weather. Somehow a salad is just not as satisfying as the carby stuff everyone else is eating. I can imagine how hard it must be to have a household - I'm perpetually single so I don't have to worry about husband and kids wanting pizza and chili and potatoes. It must be hard for you, HCB, with a husband that doesn't have your restrictions and wants to eat his winter comfort food. If I had a husband or a live in boyfriend, I'd say "If what you want can only be cooked in a crockpot, you're on your own, buddy!" Hahahahaha.

My husband is good - I work unril after 7pm most nights and he eats long before I get home...and tends to hide his "treats" from me...but I whine a lot - LOL

Same thing happened to me last week. Sometimes we just have to go off the deep end. You will recover - you didn't come all this way for nothing!

I have the same problems, HCB, only compounded by the fact that I NEED the carbs to fuel my workout. aargh! Just remember that carbs make you crave more carbs. Maybe that thought will help.

Ohhhh I hear you loud and clear HCB- carbs are my nemesis ;) the more I eat the more I want to it. I'm not sure what the solution is other than sewing my lips shut!! I am doing alot of positive self talk about how much I love salad, fruit and veggies, to keep me away from the cookies and carbs. Hang in there and be good to yourself.

I've been fighting and losing that battle for about a month now...seem to have lost my groove.

It could be partly the season. Everything is about eating right now.
