Another step in my journey to better health: I am taking a drastic action and am going to eating no dairy and no grains to get rid of my soft middle. No matter how much I have dieted or what I try to eat, my middle does not want to budge (like most Americans.) I guess this is looking more like the "paleo" diet, with lots of fruits and veggies, nuts and meats.

Was very pleased to be almost off of insulin, a huge achievement for a diabetic. Currently on metformin, and my reading this morning was 117! I only use insulin now when my sugar spikes too high. I am trying to eat a balanced amount of protein carbs and healthy fats. Still avoiding starchy veggies, breads, pasta, and rice, but eating lots of unprocessed foods. Beyond Diet has a lot of good advice for fighting belly fat painlessly. Pleased to say that I eat between 4-6 meals every day and am not really hungry. Usually eat between 1800-2000 calories, many times less than 1800.

Today, just began anew after a vacation in Florida. Have started back avoiding starches (grains, bread, pasta, and rice) but am eating both fruits and veggies. Prefer whole foods that are unprocessed. Still staying with 1800-2000 calories per day.
