We're having overnight guests this weekend. In the past, I would try to "wow" our friends with a delicious menu during their stay, but have no regard for calories, carbs, or fat. Planning the meals for this weekend has been a challenge for me, because I still want to impress by making something delicious, but I'm a lot more conscious of the health factor. We decided on a Mexican themed dinner because my husband loves my guacamole (here we go with the avocados again!). We'll have shrimp and chicken and all the fixin's for tacos, but I'll just make a salad - no sour cream, and easy on the cheese and guac.

Blech. Major fail in self restraint for the past two days. Yesterday's lunch was at my favoritest restaurant by the office. I ordered my favorite salad and ate probably about three-fourths of it. Unfortunately, that small, local chain of restaurants doesn't have any of their nutritional information online, so I had to guesstimate the amounts of the individual components. I really hope I was overestimating the amounts because I'm calculating it to be an 800-calorie salad! Absurd! At the reception that I attended in the evening, I just HAD to have a beer. I was going to only have one, but it was all gone by the time the speeches were being given. I had to get another drink for the toasts! DUH! I didn't partake in the cheese/cracker and chips/dips displays and passed on most of the hors d'ouevres, but I did have the chicken satay and one chicken salad sandwich because those were the two items that everyone was raving about. Sounds like a meager meal, but with the two beers, the calories sure did add up fast! But I WAS standing in heels for about three hours...that alone felt like a workout. HAHA! How do you log "standing in heels" on this website? ;-) Then as we were travelling back home today, the girls were starving and to save on time, we did fast food drive thru. UGH! my fast food addiction got the best of me. I haven't had fast food in over a month, so in the moment, because of that reason, I justified getting two sandwiches off the dollar menu instead of just one. lame! i didn't order my own fries, but the girls didn't finish theirs and it just smelled so good. stupid fast food. i do feel gross now though. I just have to remember this feeling the next time I'm tempted to gorge myself on crap. that's actually how i ended up quitting smoking three years ago. the more time that passed between cigarettes, the worse it made me feel. and it just got to the point where the awful feeling just wasn't worth the nicotine fix anymore. perhaps that's the way i can quit fast food once and for all. but i had a fantastic visit at the office and it was great visiting with everyone at the reception and i sure did have a great time. i'll just have squeeze in an extra workout in the next few days and do a little better next time. i could have done SO. MUCH. WORSE. so i'll pat myself on the back for not going down that road.

I'm curious to know when all of those extra calories will get processed into fat and show up on the scale? I can't imagine that its instantaneous.

A new low! I'll need that considering all of the culinary temptations I'll be facing today. knowing that my new eating habits are actually making progress in reaching my goal weight, hopefully that will motivate me to not eat too much, not eat crap, and not eat too much crap. I'm also bummed that I won't make it to yoga today. I did body step on Monday, barre on Tuesday and pilates yesterday. I'll just have to make sure I run around a lot with the kids this weekend. I hope everyone is having a great Thursday. I can't tell because I can't access the website at work and i cant read everyone's journal entries with the app. why is that? I think that's goofy.

holy cow!! 300+ calories for one avocado?!?!?!? I thought I was being all awesome and healthy until I logged it in. I guess that's what I get for not planning my menu down to my afternoon snack. Oh well, at least it wasn't a brownie (still leftover from my birthday) or Easter candy. Plus I actually only ate half of what I had planned for dinner. I didn't realize how filling each frittata slice was going to be. Tomorrow will be difficult to plan out my day of eating since I will be travelling for work and most likely eating out for lunch and then I have a retirement reception to attend. I just need to remember to make wise choices and not give in to the high fat (super yummy) foods. I'm going to pack a protein bar, an apple, and a banana to eat before lunch and before dinner so that I don't go into those meals feeling ravenous.
Another question: Am I really burning 1536 calories by doing nothing but sleeping and resting all day?
