Blech. Major fail in self restraint for the past two days. Yesterday's lunch was at my favoritest restaurant by the office. I ordered my favorite salad and ate probably about three-fourths of it. Unfortunately, that small, local chain of restaurants doesn't have any of their nutritional information online, so I had to guesstimate the amounts of the individual components. I really hope I was overestimating the amounts because I'm calculating it to be an 800-calorie salad! Absurd! At the reception that I attended in the evening, I just HAD to have a beer. I was going to only have one, but it was all gone by the time the speeches were being given. I had to get another drink for the toasts! DUH! I didn't partake in the cheese/cracker and chips/dips displays and passed on most of the hors d'ouevres, but I did have the chicken satay and one chicken salad sandwich because those were the two items that everyone was raving about. Sounds like a meager meal, but with the two beers, the calories sure did add up fast! But I WAS standing in heels for about three hours...that alone felt like a workout. HAHA! How do you log "standing in heels" on this website? ;-) Then as we were travelling back home today, the girls were starving and to save on time, we did fast food drive thru. UGH! my fast food addiction got the best of me. I haven't had fast food in over a month, so in the moment, because of that reason, I justified getting two sandwiches off the dollar menu instead of just one. lame! i didn't order my own fries, but the girls didn't finish theirs and it just smelled so good. stupid fast food. i do feel gross now though. I just have to remember this feeling the next time I'm tempted to gorge myself on crap. that's actually how i ended up quitting smoking three years ago. the more time that passed between cigarettes, the worse it made me feel. and it just got to the point where the awful feeling just wasn't worth the nicotine fix anymore. perhaps that's the way i can quit fast food once and for all. but i had a fantastic visit at the office and it was great visiting with everyone at the reception and i sure did have a great time. i'll just have squeeze in an extra workout in the next few days and do a little better next time. i could have done SO. MUCH. WORSE. so i'll pat myself on the back for not going down that road.

i think we have to give ourselves empathy and passes when we are out of our element. It's hard making things work when you are not in control of your environment in these situations. Chalk it up and move on!
