Anyone dealing with exercize-induced amenorrhea?
Hi Ginny -
I maintained a very intense workout routine for 3 or 4 years (think 4 -5 hours of moderate to intense exercise per day) and only had my period when I took time off. Although some of my family thought it was unhealthy, my doctor said no worries. It's really just from the exercise. Your body doesn't have enough extra "stuff" to have a period. With a healthy, well-monitored diet, you will be fine. My doctor just told me to take an iron supplement and eat eggs and spinach for essential B vitamins (I was vegetarian also at the time). Protein can be a concern, but iron and b vitamins are of more concern, as is calcium. Like I said, carefully monitor your diet and calories expended vs consumed - that's what determines if you lose weight or not.
Best of luck - I hope that helped!!
