Finally, after two weeks, the scale moved. Not a lot, but it did move. It's so frustrating to be so careful about keeping to your plan and then have that stubborn scale refuse to budge. But so rewarding to have it dip.

losing 0.4 lb a week

I spent three weeks getting back on to my SlimFast diet, minus the SlimFaat -- too much sugar in those products for trying to bring down my blood sugar. So I just went with the same calorie limits I had been working on before. It was difficult getting started, particularly with the doctor telling me to only eat three times a day so that my blood sugar levels would have time to regulate between meals. After struggling the first week, I was able to hit my targets consistently the next two weeks. The result? I lost less than a pound in three weeks. Frustrated beyond belief, I said screw it and ate what I wanted for two weeks -- although still mostly avoiding sweets and eating three times a day. The result: No change. Finally last week I decided that if calorie counting wasn't working I'd try something new, and moved to the Atkins diet. I've done Atkins before and initially had very good results, but after awhile I plateaued and could drop anymore weight and gave it up. So I know how it works. The first three days were a bit tortuous as my body exhausted its supply of carbohydrates, but now I'm feeling pretty confident. In five days I've lost over six pounds and have been able to stay under 20 grams of carbs per day quite easily. I'm going to stay on induction for just the first two weeks and then slowly increase my carb intake. I think my problem last time around was I stayed on induction too long, trying to maximize my weight loss. I go back to the doctor next week. I'm very interested in seeing how this has affected my blood sugar levels. I'm really hoping for a drastic improvement.
