Hello,
My name is Nickie, knocking at 40, and I've been overweight since my teens. At my heaviest, I weighed 213 lbs (I'm only 5'2") and have been hovering at around 190-200 lbs in the last few years. I don't think I've been out of a size 18 pants in a decade.

I've done almost every diet you can think of like Weight Watchers, the Zone, and even spent a small stint in the vegetarian world. The problem was, I was ALWAYS HUNGRY! I went on binges, sometimes for days. This crazy out of control eating worsened over the years. Did I have deeper issues? I went to OA, saw a therapist (who wasn't really experienced with eating issues, but we're in a tiny community), and read lots of books about conscious eating. Sure, I learned a few things, but nothing helped.

Then, at a low point, I decided to do Atkins again, and found that I was strangely content and no longer needed to binge, because the food kept me full & satisfied for the most part. So, over the last 2 years, I've been trying various low-carb plans and settled in with the Primal Blueprint, since it makes the most sense to me, is least restrictive, and no counting is involved.

I'm still struggling, since I'm the only low-carber in my family, at work, or among friends, which tends to get me in trouble, especially during the weekend. Once I'm off-track, that stupid "what-the-hell" thinking kicks in and off the deep end I go. It's not pretty and I feel horrible during & afterwards, physically & mentally. Funny, I have no issues on workdays…

My hope is to get to the point where I make healthy choices and not let people (including myself) sway me into eating stuff that may not help me to achieve my goals. Geez, I already have high bloodpressure and am at high risk for diabetes... Is that not motivation enough? I'm learning, though, one day at a time!
