No gain, but no loss either. Just a very bad week. Temps were -10 but with the windchill it was -35. This meant treadmill walking no outdoor activities. I truly feel I don't do as well on a treadmill. I just can't seem to do a natural walk on one. I have my speed set at 1.5 mph and added an incline of 3%. Maybe I should increase the speed instead of the incline? Anyone have any advice for treadmill walking and weight loss? I sure could use the help as it looks like I am going to be in below zero temps for a while here.

Treadmill for me is the best way i lose weight. The key is to stay in your fat burning zone and don't go fast enough to enter cardio zone. You can check where your heart rate is at if you have a fitness watch, or most treadmills have a spot to put your hand. If not there's the old fashioned way of stepping off and counting pulse beats. Anyway, once you figure out the best pace to keep you towards the higher end (if possible) of fat burning zone then you'll know the best speed. And you can work up to it if not. But after 20 minutes, your body will move to getting its energy directly from your fat stores so you literally will be burning the fat off at that moment. More than with a lot of other types of exercises that burn more calories but don't stay in the fat burning zone. Good luck! Don't give up! And if you can't stay in the fat burning zone yet (middle zone) you will still be burning calories. Do a google search for fat burning zone and they'll have lots of charts to do it by your age.

And to answer your question, there are lots of different methods but from one trainer i follow (Michael Thurmond) who worked with celebrities on the fastest way for weightloss, he says no incline as that uses a different type of muscles and won't burn the fat the same pace and way i described. Just flat uses your slow twitch repetitive muscles instead and if you can increase your speed to your fat burning range of heart rate when you figure that out, i would be surprised if you didn't see better results. I see great results doing that. Hope this helps!

you need to do interval training. that's what helped me lose 110 pounds.

I agree interval training is great too! I usually do that first then treadmill after on some days.

what ever feels best for you to do and gets you moving is what's right for you. you don't need Interval training and you don't need to follow what one trainer thinks is right because Theres a million other people that say something completely the opposite is true. if your getting out and walking or when it's cold your getting on the treadmill and walking then your doing great 👍 both increasing speed or increasing the incline will burn additional calories but do whichever your able to do and don't over due it. good luck the exercise is great for your body and helps the weight loss but make sure you put most of the focus on your diet that is where most of your weight loss will come from

Bottom line in weight loss is diet is 80% of it and when you exercise you must get your heart rate up to burn those excess calories. I don't follow a trainer or anything else like that. I'm speaking from my experience. Once I changed my diet and I stopped drinking my calories and I started interval training. I lost 110 pounds in one yes ONE year.

what otb said! do what you are able to. I personally hate the incline on the treadmill, but if you like it, go for it!

I prefer walking outside but I used to use a treadmill at the highest income to keep my legs strong for hiking. But just do whatever gets you moving at the rate you want to walk.

Incline is easier on my knees. I think it depends on the person.

I never used the incline myself so can't advise about that. Treadmill is better than nothing!

I find the incline is hard on my lower back. Hang in there. Spring is coming!

One of my mental challenges -- the weight-loss plateau!

Incline can injure you if you aren't fit/careful. I'd bump up the intensity but also be very careful not to stress your heartrate. I went for a walk in NH today with the artic cold front, but I have severe cold weather gear head to toe! If you are equipped, don't be afraid to take it outside (but take your phone too for safety)!

Try to work up to 3mph for 1 hour. If you can do that for 1 hour, then start to add incline and slowly work your way to full incline at 3mph for 1 hour.

I hear you! I just go at my own pace and listen to my body. Just moving is better than not moving. I find some days I feel I can push it and others I go slow. It can hurt my knees too. I try incline of 1 and that helps a bit. But some days just flat.

i haven't done treadmill in a while (am cycling) but I found a healthy incline got me panting. I was up to 9-12 but was holding on for dear life and going slow until I worked up to it

I do 2.5 and hill climb. I would increase your speed gradually so you get a good heart rate. I don't consistently do treadmill though you get body memory if you stay at set rates, have to mix it up.

I had a really hard time too in the beginning, I wanted to be going uphill and fast..but I have two really bad ankles. I finally dropped the incline to totally flat and I was able to keep speed up and found I still lost weight doing it. In my head I guessed the incline helped tone better but in reality I have no idea if that is true or not. Just put it flat and find a speed that works for you and see if it works for you. certainly can't hurt any right😁
