RoseNfeathers's Journal, 15 April 2009

It must be that time of the month coming on. I have been oh so diligent with watching my calories and drinking water. I've gained 3 lbs and feel so discouraged. My doctor told me to eat no more than 1600 calories a day but most days my intake is under 1000. I've cut out all sugar (except for the tiny bit in the cereal snack bars and I don't add any to my breakfast cereal) and caffeine which means I have given up my beloved sweet tea. I limit my bread to two slices a day at the most. No potatoes now and I so love mashed potatoes! No fast food and no fried foods. I eat lots of veggies and small amounts of meat.
Only thing that I know I should be doing and haven't is exercise. I am so not motivated. It's just so hard to work two jobs while lugging around 300+ pounds and then try to exercise. I'm always so tired and everything hurts. Now I sound like I'm whining, I know.
I have another doctor's appointment coming up and I'm going to talk to her about my thyroid levels. My Levothyroxine might need to be upped. Maybe that is what is causing the fatigue and lack of weight loss. I don't know. I do know that something has got to change.

Maybe somebody on here can take a look at what I have been eating and see if I've been doing something wrong. I enter absolutely everything I eat except for the water. I usually drink about 7 or 8 (16.9oz) bottles everyday. My snacks are eaten between meals and I don't eat anything after about 7pm at the latest. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I'm desperate, I've got to get this weight off. I want to live and be happy but right now I feel like I'm dying.

You don't seem to be eating enough. Google "calorie calculator" and punch in the information needed. They can give you a guideline on how many calories you need in order to lose weight. The more you weigh, the more calories you need to sustain that weight. So if you cut your caloric intake too much, you can slow your metabolism and not see any loss. Your metabolism needs to be fueled in order to work effectively. I would not go under 1200/1300 per day. Try to stay away form processed foods (too much sodium). You might try eating 5 or 6 smaller meals to keep your metabolism fueled (instead of 3 bigger ones). Make sure you are getting enough protein. Weight loss isn't an exact science and what works for one doesn't work for another. You need to change things up till you find what works for you. Also, stress can inhibit weight loss (something to do with cortisol). If you can, take a few minutes each day to relax. It's good you are having your thrroid levels checked, because that could be a problem too. Also, try to squeeze in exercise when you can. Jillian Michaels has a 20 minute routine that kicks butt (30 day shred). You can also try to squeeze in walks when you can. Good luck!

I agree with Suzi. Your calorie level seems to be a little low. When I was around the same weight as yourself I was dieting on about 2000 calories aday. Anything below 1200 calories is too resticting & highly likely to send you into starvation mode which will lower your metabolism, stopping your body from working at optimum efficiency & zapping your energy. Also if possible try & eat around at least 60g of protein aday. I've found adding in 15 mins of walking aday here and there also really helped to up my energy levels & made me sleep better. Would you be able to walk part of (between 15-20 mins) the way home or to work? Or parking a little further away if you drive? Your recent weight increase in probably fluid retention. This has happened to me afew times. The scales I use have a body fat Monitor on it so usually I can see that my body fat % has gone down when my weight has gone up so I know it's not a real weight gain.

Whatever you do, don't give up. I know that that is easier to say than to do, but, if you do give up defeat is imminent and if you don't, victory is imminent! Linda

I want to thank you guys for your comments and suggestions. As you can see I started eating... more, and I lost 5lbs this week!! I was so surprised at the scale this morning. I guess WHAT you eat is more important than how much. I was trying to do both and it didn't work. I thought that if I changed my food choices AND cut back on calories more than what my doctor suggested that I could do a better job at losing this weight. I see I was wrong now. No I am not going to give up. Those words are not in my vocabulary :) It was just a little bump. Now... I gotta get my big butt up and do some sweating, lol :) Thanks again for all your help!
