Hoffner's Journal, 10 December 2013

Got my walk in yesterday, but fell a little short of my goal. Not to worry I can make the distance up today if all goes as planned. My food choices are easy now except for sweets. I CRAVE sweets...this is different in that sweets have never been a problem for me my entire life. My Dr. says all is OK so its not health. Sugar free Jello with Reddi Whip has been my go to food. I need another low carb choice. Peanut Butter Atkins Bars are great and help, but they are filled with fats and really not what I should be eating. Any help out there would be appreciated. I'm shooting for the moon today, if I fall short I'm still among the stars!

Dr, Oz just posted 8 holiday cookie recipes on his website. I made copies & can email them if you can't find them. This may be just what you need to keep the sugar cravings at bay. Good luck!

Get a bag of sugar free candy, heck get 2 bags so you have choices. Sucking on one of them for 15 or 20 minutes makes short work of sugar cravings and helps a great deal with a small calorie and carb count. Make some coconut oil candy, it's actually very good for you and man are they good. Takes maybe 10 minutes to make about 30, freeze and keep on the ready any time the sugar devil strikes and proudly shove him off your shoulder with a good for you sweet snack!

What is coconut oil candy? Sounds delish! I like the sugar-free candy idea. I am heading to Walmart and wonder what low cal candies I can find. Thanks for the tip.

Coconut Oil Chocolate Candy is made with 5 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, 5 Tablespoons Coconut oil, sugarfree sweetner to taste, 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla and 2 Tablespoons coconut flakes. If I figured this right you are looking at about 27, 28 carbs per batch. I also found that Walden Farms makes a chocolate syrup that is sugar, calorie and carb free. That is hugh for a low carb dieter...maybe a teaspoon of that would stop the sweet tooth in its tracks. Am in the process of finding a nearby store that sell the product. So far it looks like it might become an online purchase. Keep up the good work with the exercise and thanks for the ideas to help stop the sweet tooth monster.

The one I make the most is as follows: Coconut Oil Candy 6 TBS coconut oil 1 TBS cocoa powder 12-15 drops Stevia or 2 tsp other sweetener of choice 1 TBS natural peanut butter Melt the coconut oil in the microwave for 30 seconds or so, add all the other ingredients and either spread on a parchment covered cookie sheet to break into a bark type candy or can be put in molds or mini muffin tins lined with papers. Cool and store in the freezer Makes 12 cups, nutritional value for 1 cup: 87.67 calories, 9.81 fat, .49 carbs, .23 fiber, net carbs .26 and protein .33.
