MFD1979's Journal, 06 July 2012

I'm down less than a pound... It's getting really frustrating. This is the slowest weight loss I have ever had doing Atkins, and yet this is the most committed I have been to the diet in 7 years. I know it works because I am loosing every week, but it sure would be nice to see a 2 or 3 pound drop one week... That would give me some motivation back. Sigh.
201.4 lb Lost so far: 8.6 lb.    Still to go: 37.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Diet Calendar Entry for 06 July 2012:
1017 kcal Fat: 70.68g | Prot: 72.09g | Carb: 24.69g.   Breakfast: pure protein shake. Lunch: ranch dressing, cheese, avacado, salad w/ assorted veggies. Dinner: extra virgin olive oil, zucchini, pork chop. more...

Hang in there. A pound a week is something. Better than the reverse direction! We all want it to disappear so much faster than it came on, but sadly, our bodies won't do that...and actually it would probably be a disaster if they did. We'd have all this saggy skin hanging there. Not pretty. A slow weight loss will let your whole body adapt better to the changes, and you will be able to better inhabit the new you, and full adopt this new way of eating moving forward, so you won't have to do it all over again. :)

Hey MFD.. no worries.. yduj57 is right you are still going in the right direction. Try eating a little more throughout the day. It sounds stupid because you would think the less you eat the more you'd lose but it really doesn't work like that. I keep saying it keep your body guessing.. Eat bigger meals one day and smaller meals the next. Eat different types of food. I don't know much about Atkins but try to stick to chicken as it is usually the best meat when it comes to dieting. Good luck! Keep up the good work!

I know I haven't eaten enough food it last 2 days... didn't get enough veggies and yesterday I ate less than 500 calories (which is so not cool) I didn't even realize it until this morning. Atkins is about fat and protein... and carbohydrates from vegetables. I can eat a steak if I want with no problem. I have goals for the next 2 weeks that include... No processed foods... ad in coconut oil... exercise 3 days a week for 30 minutes. Please don't get me wrong... I am so happy to still be loosing weight. I have just done this diet before and just watched the pounds fall off... so its just different this time around. I'll get there. No worries.

It happens. We all run into a plateau here and there. Sometimes more often than we would hope. Don't lose hope, we can do it!

I hear ya, this time around has been the slowest loss yet for me too! That coconut oil suggestion is a good one, can't believe how much it helps me, and gives me energy too. And water water water! If you feel up to it, up your exercise! And as everyone is saying, don't give up you are doing great!! Good luck!

Another idea with the exercise is to up your intensity, or change up your activity. If you keep doing the same exercise at the same intensity, then your body adapts to that and becomes more efficient at doing it. You have the right attitude to succeed. :)

@Lisa Kay how do you use the coconut oil and what kind do you buy. Organic, Refined, Unrefined, Cold Pressed... it seems there are a lot different types. Do you cook with it? I saw someone say they put it in there morning coffee.

Will someone restate the coconut oil suggestion; when, how much, or how to use. Also, has anyone has success with Rice Bran Oil, noted by Dr. Oz?

For those that asked, I use one of two coconut oils: the organic refined Spectrum and Nutiva Extra Virgin organic! There doesn't really seem to be that much difference, one is slightly more solid, and the Nutiva has a very faint coconut scent. I use a teaspoon in my morning coffee a lot, and I cook veggies and meats with the oil as well. I don't like it on my eggs, though, I still use butter. When I drink it in my coffee, I DO feel an energy boost, real or imagined! And, it seems to aid my weight loss. So I'm going to keep using it! Good luck y'all!

I've never thought of putting coconut oil in coffee (admittedly though, coffee was one of the vices that I gave up when commencing this 'get fit and healthy' lifestyle change). However, I DO cook veggies in it. Just a tiny bit (maybe a teaspoon for a skillet of onions/bell peppers/beans/etc). It's also great on potatoes, and tilapia or salmon (add a little agave, tamari soy, fresh cilli, ginger, and garlic as a glaze and you've got yourself a lovely dish ;-) I buy cold pressed, virgin coconut oil, but that's mostly because it's what my favorite grocery sells in bulk. I just found this online: http://www.foodrenegade.com/how-to-choose-a-good-coconut-oil/ which purports to tell us the differences between all the different types. I don't stand by its accuracy, but it's likely more authoritative than me!

Sometimes, if you go back and read your journal entries, you can get some insight as to why your rate of loss is less than, or greater than, expected. It's a good thing to do whenever we don't understand why our bodies are reacting one way or another.

I found a web site called Wilderness Family Naturals and they have sampler containers of the coconut oil. I ordered the 3 different types they had (Certified Organic Virgin Centrifuge Extracted Coconut Oil; Certified Organic Virgin Cold Pressed Coconut Oil and Certified Organic Ultra-Clean Supreme Expeller-Pressed Coconut Oil)I figured I would try each one and order the one I liked best. I am going to for sure add it to my morning coffee... and it seems like it would great to cook seafood in. (Not sure why I am associating seafood with it, but seems like it would be a good fit.)

Trader Joe's sells an organic cold pressed coconut oil. I started buying it recently, and use it mostly for cooking...my eggs in the A.M., sometimes for veggies, or once to saute fish. It has good high temperature performance...doesn't break down into nasty stuff the way some vegetable oils can at higher temperatures.

I got my coconut oil in the mail yesterday and this morning I tried the Raw Organic Cold Pressed. I put a teaspoon in my coffee and WOW it really tasted like coconut. So I don't think that I would be able to cook with this one... I have 2 different types to try out. I could see using the raw one in coffee, but I feel like it would give food a coconut taste. Planing on trying out the other 2 types this weekend. I'll post an update once I try them all.
