this weight doesn't reflect the struggling i have been doing. i've been having a hard time not snacking, and a hard time motivating myself to exercise. i keep sleeping through the beginning of pool time, so i have to get used to telling my husband to wake me up when he is ready to go to work. mostly i've been having trouble falling asleep, sometimes staying awake until 3 am. that's why i've been having a hard time getting up at 7:30.

i think since starting this sugar challenge, i have actually been eating more sugar than before! no beer, though. i tried a starbucks orange mango smoothie, and that was a big mistake because the sugar in it just made me all that more hungry. i get that i shouldn't eat something so sweet in the morning, it's just not playing out through my actions. like intellectually i know it, but putting it into practice is something else.

i don't know what's up with the eating. i have been hungrier. i have been making bad choices. i told myself i would make some salad and green smoothies, but the veggies sit, untouched. i have to get on that.

in other news, i have decided to take up the cello. i have my first lesson on tuesday. i don't know anything about music. and i ordered a hula hoop. i had a hard time with that because the one i wanted said it was for people between 100 and 160 pounds. the other hula hoops did not say anything about weight. i finally just ordered the one i wanted. it's wide enough so i figure it shouldn't be a problem. i hope i can keep the enthusiasm up for both of these.

Totally agree with NowIunderstand here regarding fruit. In addiiton to the nutritional value, I love the taste of fruit and always have. Fruit wasn't what made me fat. I give that one to the chocolate, pastries, fried foods, cookies etc. I still eat fruit - quite a lot of it actually. I think that giving up (even temporarily) something that we REALLY enjoy can create more situations where we're likely to binge. And for many of us, if we're not doing a food plan that feels nourishing and satisfying, we're less likely to WANT to stick with it. Geri, you'll find your path. It's a process of trial and error and most important, what feels right for you!

I second Vickie 5966, I think that I have tripled my fruit intake during this diet. What made me fat was binging on chips, Coca-Cola, burgers, fries, and such like. I know there are a lot of different theories out there on what specific diet works. For me, it has always been a matter of calories in vs. calories out. It gets a little more difficult as you age, but if you reduce intake by 3500 calories, you lose a pound more or less. It's just a lot harder to reduce by 3500 calories than it is to eat that many. You can overdo it by 3500 calories by a couple of burger, fry and coke meals. It's a bit scary, really.

And the thing is, fruit will not make you go on binges or give you cravings. But bad food choices will. And I too love the taste of fruit! It's actually my weakness. :)

Gnewfry - you are right you will need to find the right path for you. Just keep in mind if what you have been doing is not working you may need to consider alternatives. I have searched and researched for a long time. Continue to educate yourself and experiment. I truly believe that no plan works for everyone. We are all individuals with different genetics, blood types and metabolisms! The fact that you are willing to continue with this site is promising. Good luck on your path.

NowIunderstand - I am keeping my carbs under 25g. I can eat fruit and actually did have melon a couple weeks ago but it stalled me for a week. At this point in time I choose to not each fruit because it does trigger hunger for me. I am extremely sensitive to carbs and therefore am getting my carbs mostly from vegetables. Everyone has to find their own path. I have no intention of never eating fruit again but for right now it makes sense for me to not indulge.
