gilliansings's Journal, 14 April 2014

I've been a bit under-the-weather for the last 3-4 days. I used to suffer terribly from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I've been very fortunate these past 2-3 years and I seemed to be over it.

One never knows whether they've ingested a food item that was past its optimal date, so that could be what happened this time.

In any event, I really had to overcome pain and fatigue on Saturday to get in my walk. I had hoped that it would help me feel better (TMI alert, exercise tends to help you pass gas, lol). Unfortunately, I felt just as bad when I returned.

I attended a potluck and hardly ate. I was amazed that the "chili chippers" appetizer held no allure for me. The proposed dessert got hijacked by a curious cat, so I didn't have to worry about that.

I left early because of my tummy ailment. It didn't get any better overnight. I stayed in bed most of Sunday, only getting up to do a quick clean-up of my kitchen/living room. My youngest son turned 20 yesterday and everyone was coming over for pizza and ice cream cake. I came pretty close to cancelling everything earlier in the day, but tried to pull myself together for my son's sake. My daughter got to my house around 2:15 and, even though she knew how rotten I felt, I found myself with a baby in my arms in the middle of trying to make a salad. She didn't help me with the salad.

I survived the rest of the afternoon and kept hoping that things would break up early. My youngest son LOVES to play games when a group gets together. I bit my lip and survived a pleasant card game and snuck off to bed. Then I remembered how little I had eaten in the afternoon and went back down to get a healthy snack.

I awoke at 5:00 am with a pounding headache, fever, and more abdominal distress. I made it back to bed, trying to decide whether to call out for my morning shift. After about ten minutes I decided that was for the best.

I'm feeling a little better now, but it's been rough. I feel grateful for my previous respite from this ailment. I hope it's another couple years before I have another bout this bad.

On the plus side, I jumped on the scale an hour ago and I'm down another pound, lol. I didn't record it because I prefer to stick to my once a week so I don't have to deal with little ups and downs.

Oh, it stinks to feel yucky. I'm sending warm fuzzies your way in the hopes this will pass soon. Keep up all the good, healthy food and you will be back in the pink in no time. The weight loss is a plus, but we will hold for the "official" day just to be on the safe side, right? <wink>. Cheers!

Thanks, you guys. Feeling about 50% better, but sure wish it would get gone already! Tired of hurting! I'm not nauseous, but I'm just not all that interested in eating. After I eat my tummy hurts a little more than usual, but not enough to keep me from eating. I think I may try to exercise tonight. I survived work today, which is a relief.

I have IBS also so I know exactly what that feels like.. but it doesn't sound like that.. maybe you did eat something that was not "right" or "good", or simply maybe a virus. Hope u feel better tomorrow after a good night's rest :)

Thanks, RoeCampy. Some of the symptoms were similar to my IBS, like the low burning pain (somewhat alleviated after passing gas) and the very small, rabbit-type stools, followed by scant diarrhea. My abdomen wasn't bloated and I never really passed much gas (which I usually do when having a significant IBS flare-up). So yeah, it is seeming more and more like the intestine is just super-irritated from whatever source. Exercise, lots of water, and fiber almost every day (Citrucell) has kept my IBS in much better check than in my 20s and 30s. For that I am VERY grateful. Sorry you have to go through this.
